Is the Kroger Company so poor they have to keep the playlist restricted to a tiny list of crappy songs? "Manic Monday" (played EVERY day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday (yes, that's seven days a week, every week of the year).....most of us employees should be manic-depressives by now......
Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" with memorable lyrics just perfect for encouraging our customers to stay in the store: "Well, now go! Walk out the door! Just turn around now, cause you're not welcome anymore!!!!!" hey Kroger corporate, are you listening????? This song is also played every day except for Thursdays (senior citizen day).
"Angie baby" about an insane girl. (Are you insane to shop here?)
"Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band. A song about sex encounters after 12:00 noon(?). Played so many times I now feel almost nauseated when it starts.
"These Dreams" by Heart. It might be OK if I had only heard it 50 times, instead of about 10,000 by now.
Here at my Kroger, I have to think of this hypothetical scenario: Let's pretend you are working in an office. You are always tied to your desk. To the right, over in the corner is a TV set, turned up a bit too loud. It is required by upper management to be on at all times. All of the programming consists of about 50 to 100 TV shows, BUT only one episode (and only one) of each show. One episode of Cheers, one episode of Gilligan's Island, one episode of Knot's Landing, one episode of Bewitched, one episode of Full House, one episode of Star Trek, one episode of I Love Lucy, one episode of (name a show, new or old). The TV will only show that one episode from each show, and the only surprise will be the exact order the shows will be broadcast on any certain day. But, imagine this goes on for weeks, months, maybe even years. After awhile you know all the funny bits, the upcoming scenes. It becomes increasingly boring and frustrating. But you are not allowed to watch anything except for what is shown on this particular set.
This is *almost* how I am getting to feel about the music in my store.
Kroger should start off with an entirely different and EXTENSIVE playlist (covering 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s hits) so that any one particular song isn't heard that often. There are millions of songs out there. Do we have to hear the same ones every single day????
It's called torture. We used to have this horrible country music with horrible singers covering the songs. Imagine the way the band that sings Afternoon Delight sounds and imagine them singing a cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire. Torture.
I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics to Afternoon Delight until a coworker of mine told me that song is about sex, she thought it was hilarious they were playing that song in the store.
They also play this song: www.youtube.com/watch
Closing Time, WE'RE A 24 HOUR STORE.
They've also played Shania Twain's Honey I'm Home, which contains the lyrics "This job ain't worth the pay".

Playing closing time during work hours is the most passive aggressive thing you can do in the 21st century.
Manic Monday makes me want to throw something, especially when it's a Sunday, our most busy day, and the stupid lady is singing "wish it were Sunday, that's my fun day." Oh really? Isn't that nice for you? It must be a luxury to be off on Sunday!
The default playlist is just a couple of genres, you can fax a sheet to the company that runs it to get whatever genres you want. We have everything from Mozart to metal at our store.
Steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes steady as she goes etc.
Sometimes, when we have a really bad storm that causes the power to go out, even briefly, it will cause the Kroger Radio Network, or whatever the heck it's called, to go dead, and nothing will play. Nothing at all. No music, no Kroger announcements, nothing will come out of the intercom except when someone makes a page. When this happens, it can sometimes take weeks before they "fix" the issue, and let me tell you, those weeks go by much too quickly!
That's about the only instance I can think of when referring to weeks at Kroger going by much too quickly...
ive gotten to the point where the songs dont really bother me except for a select few.. but then again, i only work on the sales floor a few days a week, the other days i'm at the cash registers and cant hear it.
I work Nightcrew so we have a communal radio that we listen to. Sometimes we'll put the intercom by the speakers and listen like that. Hell, no one ever calls at 2 am asking if we carry a certain product. And management RARELY comes in that early, IF at all. Sooo, no crap music for us
Hi "TOMATO": The management at my store shows no interest in changing the music format. They seem to think that all of the employees are mindless drones who are happy and blissfully contented to listen to the same few songs over and over ad nauseum.
In any case, the current format seems to ALREADY be a mix of several "genres": Hard rock, country-rock (Linda Ronstadt "You're no good") , Folk (Joan Baez "The Night they drove ol' Dixie down), soft rock (Bob Welch) Easy listening (Helen Reddy, You and Me against the World), 1970s oldies (Mark Lindsey, "Arizona"), disco (Fly Robin Fly), R & B, 2000's pop (Cher) and 1980s crap. The point of my previous post was that the playlist is HIGHLY REPETITIVE AND VERY TINY!!! (That is, there may be ALL of those genres included, but the number of individual songs from each genre is tiny..........well , except for hard rock and "1980s crap".) SO, even though I might like some of those songs, they are repeated TOO OFTEN!!! Do you get my point?
ALSO.........because of the department/location I work at in the store, I am subjected to this "music" nonstop and there is no way to avoid hearing it, it's not like the front end cashiers who may barely notice it.
We got to a point where we brought a small radio to listen to in our back room. Bad news about that is it only picks up 1 station that plays the same 15 country songs over and over. Hell we even got a co-manager to store expense some batteries for it.
I'm looking for a song don't know the name or who sings it. Some of the lyrics are " All I do is sit and think of you, missing you" that's all I got lol and she sounds like Mariah Carey. Please help
To remind us of what a great singer Mariah Carey truly is or was (before the horribly embarrassing snafu on New Years Eve this past December) how about Kroger including some really nice songs like HERO, WITHOUT YOU (almost as good as NILSSON) and I'LL BE THERE in their playlist?
