Use turtle speed until you adjust to turning radius', how to grab pallet from long side and short side and learn how to judge product stability. The most important thing to remember is: Do not run over your foot. Useful tip: use extra caution going thru door flaps with cherry tomatoes on top of pallet.
I have been using forklifts for over 20 years so using the machinery is second nature for me.
We have always unloaded our own trucks. The drivers were not allowed to use Kroger machinery due to Kroger liability for accidents. So, I am not sure what you are talking about.
Of course, if you refuse to use machinery, they will have you using the hand pallet jacks to unload the trucks. Pick the red one with white plastic wheels. It pulls easier when you have a lot of weight.
Our power jack was broken once and I had to unload the KMP and grocery truck with a hand jack by myself. It actually went faster.

i HATE unloading trucks. It was the one part of grocery I despised. It's what sent me back to the front end.
Just get the training and take it slow. If the truck driver wants to get on your ass about it just tell them that they are free to just go wait inside their truck while you unload. They don't have to be there with you.
Basically, tell them to FUB off.

Whoa, they unloaded grocery trucks for you? Most of the time it's a drop here on a grocery load anyway. The only time we have to unload is when it takes up more than one trailer and another truck comes in an as overflow with a few pallets on it. That being said, the only truck we don't unload here is milk.
I've never seen a truck driver unload anything. Just yack on their knockoff Bluetooth about how long it's taking for so-and-so to unload the truck and how their job is like "modern slavery" even though they get every Sunday off and wear whatever the hell they want to drive a day cab truck making 3 times as much money as me.

Very true. Some of the most outlandish crap I've ever heard in my life has come from these road worn veterans.....all that truck stop speed, maybe.
And the closest I've ever seen a trucker come to unloading a drop? MAYBE he or she will help push a pallet. Five feet. Down a slope. Mostly what they'll do is lean over your shoulder, glaring at you and grumbling about how it all needs to go faster.
I would be screwed, I am not authorized, nor have any training what so ever. Fortunately, most of our drivers will unload the trucks for me..it's much quicker for them anyway. I know they aren't required to do that but most are pretty nice about it. Except one guy who waited in his truck for almost 2 hours waiting for an authorized user to come in.
