I've been one of the backups for File Maintenance at my store for a year and a half, and almost everyone at my store tells me they feel sorry for me and "you couldn't pay me to do that job." I don't really understand why though. It's not a bad job. Tags aren't too bad. Signs are easy. Audits are boring, but I have no problem with doing them. Dealing with various problems like tags not coming in, prices not scanning right, etc. is frustrating, but I'm sure every department has their own headaches to deal with. I just don't know why File Maintenance in particular is the one department that pretty much everyone in my store says they want to stay away from. As long as you do your work and aren't lazy, it's a pretty easy job, not to mention it's a nice break from whatever department you work normally.
i agree it's easy but most people see the times you work and think that's horrible. I dont mind it, i'm a morning and night person. The problems I have with it is other departments trying to **** with my lead by changes the product on display around 10 am when we are about to leave and tell him "oh well not my problem, make the signs". Or grocery putting items that CLEARLY are not the same product/price in the wrong tag place because of too much "back stock". Also grocery telling us we are in the way. **** you, we're doing a job too.
I'm starting to get bored of it. I'm not the back up or anything but his back up is an idiot and very slow at what he does so I have to make up for him and pretty much the back up. He doesn't even schedule the back up half the time and schedules me instead.
Well our File Maintenance lady likes to talk on the phone for a good part of the day. It's hard not to listen to half of a white trash conversation when putting on an order. Today we had to put our cases back together after they were power washed at night and "file maintenance doesn't have time to hang they signs they made. Oh well it's your ass and no one else's. On top of store phones are for store use only, not for personal calls. I know this because it's in the store rules I had to read and sign for. This should be a cake job.
I don't work File Maintenance but I know the schedules are terrible. One woman, who used to work in my department, transfered there about a year ago. She either works 6:00AM to 2:30PM or 12:00AM to 8:30AM. She might get off at 2:30 one day and have to be back at midnight that night. You either have to go home and go straight to bed in the middle of the afternoon, which is nearly impossible, or stay up, work your next shift, and then crash when you get home the next morning. Nope, there's no way I would do that.
