Walked in this morning and found out we have a new donut program in the bakery. Didn't know a thing about it. They just sprung it on me and said they had to be done today. In addition to the regular donuts we do, we now have to do the following:
turtle cake donuts (chocolate, pecans caramel)
samoa cake donuts (chocolate, coconut, caramel)
donuts with Rice Krispies on them, both plain and fruity
donuts with Froot Loops on them
s'mores donuts (chocolate, graham cracker crumbs, miniature marshmallows)
salted caramel donuts
donuts with chocolate icing and peanuts on them
donuts with colored icing
maple bacon donuts
glazed donuts with icing drizzled on them
donuts with M&M's on them
donuts with almonds on them.
That's all I can remember.
When I left to go home today, I took a look at the donut case. The regular donuts were pretty much picked over. Nobody wanted the new ones.
The only one out of those that sounds REMOTELY good is maybe the Samoa one. Mind you, I don't care for coconut, but if it tastes like the Girl Scout cookies, maybe.
Everything else sounds like diabetus. Or wtf worthy, like maple bacon donuts. Are you serious. The s'mores donut is a Tim Horton's rip off (that doesn't sell very well over there either, by the way).
We sampled a few of them. The samoa donuts were pretty good, even though I don't like coconut. The maple bacon one was too salty. The s'mores were pretty good, but I think marshmallow creme heated and drizzled over them would be better than whole marshmallows. We didn't try any of the cereal covered ones. The salted caramel ones were too sweet but that may have been due to the fact that we used caramel buttercream instead of the caramel glossy dipping icing. We were out of the caramel we're suppose to use. Everybody seemed to like the one with chocolate and peanuts on it. We used honey roasted peanuts. The turtle one was disappointing. I like caramel, chocolate, and pecans but the pecans we get in the bakery are the nearest next to nothing whe it comes to flavor. They're dry and tasteless.
I went to Kroger this morning just to get some donuts (and sushi...)!
My selection: 2 glazed, 1 glazed fritter, 1 cinnamon sugar...
It's amazing the number of people who like the cinnamon sugar twists. They're the easiest ones to make too. Here's the secret recipe for cinnamon sugar: one 4lb. bag of granulated sugar and one 2 oz. can ground cinnamon. Mix well.
