Anybody work for Mid Atlantic have a visable tat? i interviewed for Store Administrative Assistant today & i have a cat tattoo behind my ear. I didn't notice tattoos in this store but I can't find a handbook copy online to check what it says.  Manager probably didn't see it bc my hair was down but wouldn't always be possible to hide it. someone would notice eventually!

In my store at least, they don't care about tattoos. Our frozen lead has a big tattoo down his arm and we've had papers in the past saying no tattoos from upper management, he basically said F you to it and went about his business. No one ever said a word to him, lol.

I have 8 tattoos. 3 of which are visiable my management team dont care nor does the district business unit. I also work in the mid atlantic division.

 Technically, yes, that is discrimination. However, that isn't a form of illegal discrimination.

 

Tattoos are not a protected class under United State's laws.

It's not discriminatory to refuse to hire somebody because they have a tattoo. People with tattoos are not considered a legally protected minority.

But if an applicant has a tattoo and is a protected minority and Kroger uses the tattoo as an excuse to not hire them, then that is discrimination.

I have no problem with tattoos as long as they are not offensive in any way.

And Kroger's tattoo policy does prohibit visible tattoos which are offensive. If you have a swastika tattooed on your forearm and refuse to cover it, then Kroger has the right to fire your Nazi ass.

 You're kidding, right?  Even if Kroger says the reason is the tattoo, then they can claim it's because they are a minority?  I just don't see how that would work.

 What if I am a practicing Buddhist and want a Buddhist symbol on my forearm?

Tattoos are tacky and unsightly.  They also show that the person doesn't think before considering the consequences.  Twenty years from now, all these people who are getting tattoos are going to be saying, "What the hell was I thinking?"  I certainly wouldn't hire someone with tattoos if the job involved dealing with the general public.  It looks unprofessional.

Now how in the world do you know what they were ALL thinking when they decided to get a tattoo?  And they are ALL going to regret it in the future?  How do you know that?  Seriously, I want to know.

 

  I would suggest you never try to start a company of your own.  You will work alone if you won't hire someone with a tattoo.  Or maybe you could find some old people who haven't had a tattoo to work for you.

I don't think anyone really notices tattoos anymore.  Unless there are flames tattooed on your face or something.

 That's a crock and you know it.  When I started 25 years ago, the majority of people didn't have all these tattoos like they do now, unless they were sailors or belonged in a gang of street thugs.  When it comes to religious beliefs, people were just as religious back then but they didn't feel a need to brand themselves to remind them of their beliefs.  It's the same when it comes to loved ones.  Back then, we had photographs and our own memories to remind ourselves of those things.  Do you really need to have their image etched permanently  into your skin to remind yourself of them?

Times change.  People change.  Fashions change.  If you don't like tattoos don't get one.  But leave othesr alone and let them do to their bodies whatever they want to do.  It's none of your business what other people do.  You don't get to make their choices and decisions for them.  That's just the way it is.

 

My husband and both daughters have tattoos.  I do not.  I don't like them FOR ME.  Their tattoos are fine  FOR THEM.  I don't tell them not to do it and they don't tell me to do it.

To the OP. I don't work in the same area for you, but the only person who has had to cover his tats had one of a mostly naked lady on his arm and since we were short of shirts when he was hired you could see her when he wears his women's cut shirts.

I know a couple of folks up front that customers complain to management about their bagger or cashier having tats. Management just rolls their eyes and smiles.
