If you, as an employee, ever die while not working, they would demand a death certificate or else write you up for not showing up to work.

Wish I could answer your question. I had a co-worker whose family member, a cousin, passed away. She couldn't get off work from it. I think the store policy is it has to be immediate family. So I advised her to go home and shoot her mother.

Yes, our contract defines immediate family as:
Spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren or any relative residing with the employee.
