So I requested this coming Wednesday off and it was approved. This morning I find out that I'm scheduled to work on this day, plus outside of my long standing (since 2010) availability time frame (8-5).
I have same situation coming up on the following Wednesday and Thurs. Preapproved, and I want to schedule doctors appointments for, but how can I if I'm going to be denied at the last minute ???
Have we lost all our rights ?
Perhaps I should mention we have a new FEM, who constantly looks for reasons why things aren't going well. (Not my fault because - fill in the blank) I think he's trying to throw his weight around and assert his authority. In any event, I might just be sick that day, but I don't really want to as I haven't been sick in the six years I've worked for Kroger....

Confirm with your contract and union folk, but you likely have two solid affirmative defenses there.
As a courtesy, you might let the scheduler know to cover the shift with someone who can actually be there. As additional self protection, you might call in two hours before the shift if the scheduler insists on leaving you on it.
Thanks kroagrr , FEM ended up just switching my scheduled shift with another's ( less seniority ). So now I'm scheduled 9 - 4:30....its better, but I still don't like him approving the day off, then taking away.
I haven't missed a day or even been late in 5 1\2 years.
All of upper management has changed out twice over, no one is the same as when I started. So all I have to do is wait, and they'll be gone again. Not even worth getting too crazy about.
My mantra is 'shut up, and keep my head down'
Just got scolded for talking to everyone too much, so now I don't talk to anyone. I do speak up for myself when pressed to do so, like when they ignore your break. Mostly I can't afford confrontation right now, need to pay bills

It's an understandable stance to take. Just don't let yourself be walked on. :(
I get scolded for stupid things all the time but I know that they aren't going to do anything about it so I tend to not care after I give the lip service. haha.
