I'd suggest having an alternate union who wants to represent you lined up; otherwise, you'll be at the mercy of kind and benevolent Krogrr, the outfit that brings you high pressure, welfare wages, and chronic understaffing to make it all worse.

Amen to that. Kroger must be be proud of themselves. It takes some kind of special corporation to oust Wal-Mart as the most oppressive company to its workers. And it does so in spades.
the union steward went to a different store about 2 months ago permanently. when do we get a new one? or vote for a new one?
Contact your union local and ask for the business agent, the person above your stewards who handles issues from your store. Don't be surprised that just by showing interest, you could become the next (volunteer) steward at your store.

Coincidentally, I've said essentially the same thing.
