I'm a full time college student and have a really open availability for being in that position. I'm only unavailable two days of the week, and any other day I'm available from open to close. I was not getting enough hours in the department I was originally in, the floral dept (which is understandable), so I requested to train elsewhere to pick up more hours. I am now trained in four different departments. My managers are always joking about fighting over me because they all need me to work for their department and that I do a good job. However, I am still not getting scheduled enough hours. I am consistently getting scheduled around 12 - 16 hours a week. When I was hired, they told me that I would be getting a bare minimum of 20, and I have told several managers that I need to work more than that if possible. Ideally, I would work 30 hours a week. I don't understand how I can still be getting scheduled so minimally, when I'm trained in four different departments, have a really open availability, and am receiving feedback from my managers that I am a good employee. I don't know who I am supposed to talk to about it at this point, as I have already spoke with each department's head, the assistant store manager, and the store manager. Maybe I need to be looking for different job.
you are only guaranteed 20 hours with open availability. you do NOT have open availability if you are unavailable 2 days a week.
just go to managers and not the one who schedules you and ask if they have any open hours available for you. most likely the days you are unavailable are the days they need you the most
Or just look for a job somewhere else. Kroger has the worst scheduling flexibility I've ever seen. They really expect your life to revolve around them, for their lousy pay. Screw them.
