Does anyone know why we are getting rid of i-Wireless? We got a memo saying that we're no longer selling the phones at any Kroger marketing area and to pull them all, but no explanation. I haven't seen anything online... you'd think there would be some kind of news article if a giant retailer was shutting down their wireless service. I know we'll still have the cards (for now?) but what do I tell my customers?

Just tell the customers Kroger no longer carries the phones and if they have any questions to contact their wireless provider. Ditto for the cards when they go.
I'm guessing Kroger will divest the i-Wireless, or just slowly phase it out. Without the phones on display to sell, there won't be any new customers generated. Existing wireless customers will still have the airtime cards available, but when they want to replace or upgrade their phones, they'll have to order the phone online, or try to use another phone that is compatible with i-Wireless / Sprint. They won't be able to just waltz into the store and pick up a new one etc.
I also noticed the online selection of phones from i-Wireless has been cut down dramatically. Not a lot to choose from.
I asked our Drug/GM dept head about this, and she said it was because stores were losing money on the phones. Too many returns after the initial airtime cards had expired.
