I've been at Kroger since June of 2015, and I've been looking for something better to do with myself. I've decided I want to get into medical coding, and that I could either take a class and become certified or I could go through college (but, I'd rather do the class), but the class is expensive. My question is would Kroger's program be something to look into, or no since it really won't be a job I'd do at Kroger? Would Kroger even help with one class for a certification? Or would I have to go to college anyway?
I'm really just trying to figure my life out and get it together so I'm not stuck at Kroger or (heaven forbid) going from retail job to retail job.
There are some programs that Kroger offers for this, but it might depend on your area. I worked in Southwest, and I remember a program called HGMRA scholarship. You have to write a couple of short essays, get a recommendation from the store manager, and submit transcripts. Contrary to popular belief, you did NOT have to be planning to go to school for a retail career. You just have to be able to somehow tie your major to the grocery industry. So, a degree in the field of medicine could possibly be tied to pharmacy or even nursing (there are company nurses). Ask an ASP about this if you have one. They are supposed to be responsible for getting this information to you. Unfortunately, some are better than others.
