Between power hungry floor supervisors and messy coworkers Kroger is the worst company ever. I'm being run over.

Let me start off by saying, I have a Business Administration AA degree and three good MS Office certifications. I really don't need this ****. I'd make more money working at McDonald's. Floor Supervisors make only like $8.50, but they think they're so above everybody.

I feel like my front-end managers are purposely looking for **** to complain about me so that can build a case to fire me. I'm not intimidated by anyone at my job, and I don't know why they hate me. I don't run behind them and I usually stay to myself.

Everything I say is being taken out of context to be used against me. It's so toxic. I was told that I talk too much and I have and attitude problem. A few of my coworkers feel like I act like I'm too good to go outside and asked why would I take the job if I couldn't get buggies. I have cerebral palsy, but it's only a mild case. I just slightly limp in my left leg.

Ever since I told them that I was disabled and I couldn't do cart duty due to my cerebral palsy it's like everything changed. I was told that I can't use my little disability as an excuse just cause I don't wanna do something. I've been screamed at and called bossy just because I asked for help. My front end manger yelled at me three weeks ago because I walked a person out to their car after someone else bagged the order. I was accused of stealing tips from people.

People have rolled my schedule stolen my hours because they didn't like if I got more hours than them one week and they'd been there longer than me. Before I was getting at least 20 to 28 hours and now I'm getting like 18 hours a week. I was told by my manager that I can't work holidays or weekends since my disability prevents me from going outside and that I should be grateful I can walk. I was told that they are too busy for me to work because he needed someone that was able to get buggies. He said he has a cousin with CP that can't do anything for his-self.

I was bitched out because apparently a customer complained because I said excuse me while I was sweeping the floor. Apparently, I was told the customer felt like I was running them off the aisle.

A girl wanted me to work one of her days last week. She asked the self-checkout clerk to text my manager from her phone to ask if it was okay. The next thing I know, the two of them were laughing about something my manager texted about me being disabled. When the self-checkout clerk saw me looking over her phone she got mad and hid it.

Today the self-checkout clerk asked me to do something and I went to do it. Two seconds after she asked me I was called to the managers office. Apparently, she complained to my front end manager that I cop an attitude when she asks me to do something. I was told that the self checkout clerk was my manager's eyes and ears when he's not there. I was told that if I'm rude again and he sees it that it's grounds for immediate dismissal. I was told I would be wrote up and either fired or suspended. I wasn't even rude to the girl I just said okay, I'll do

You need to call 1-800-689-4609 and tell them about this. This is the corporate hr help line. They will handle this sort of thing. Also talk to your BA from the union.

Typical Kroger bullsh!t.
I am sad to inform you that your circumstances, should they be read at face value, are not uncommon within this company where products and shelves matter more than people.

You need to contact an attorney asap.  They did this to a handicapped employee in Plano Texas and he sued and won - 4 million dollars.  So there's your precedence.  You need a witness every single time you speak to someone at work.  But you really need to talk to an attorney - tomorrow! My Kroger store has plenty of handicapped employees and they are allowed to work according to their capabilities.  Taking you off of weekends and holidays is punishing you for a handicap.  They still need groceries bagged those days, floors swept, etc.  I would sue them.  Go see an attorney asap, seriously.  You also need to call the corporate office and report it.  Read up on the Americans With Disabilities Act.  You have a strong case against Kroger and I think you can win it.

As far as all that he said she said?  They can't fire you over it.  They can write you up three times then fire you, but don't sign the write ups.

If you have a degree and don't really need this ****, why don't you just quit? Hell, just reading your post I think you think you're better than anyone else. But then again everybody does. So the best and most honest advice anyone should give you is use your degree to get a better job or quit bitching.

Wow!  So (in your words) if he thinks he is better than everyone else, he doesn't have a right to complain about mistreatment by others?  Just thinking you're better than someone gives permission for people to abuse you?

The good, useful answer.

You sure about that?  You know all about the different certifications?  Really?  They give them out?

Your writing alone speaks to your education and intelligence, so the qualifiers aren't really necessary. Are you getting this defensive with coworkers and supervisors? If so, nix that ish. That's probably at least a bit of where they are getting the criticism about your attitude. It's  certainly understandable someone with a physical disability would be inclined to rely on logical skills, but it sounds as though they are exasperated to the point of not being able to remain professional. Shame on them!

You can certainly go to HR, but I wouldn't expect things to improve very much. HR is there to minimize liability, not make everyone play nicely. From the tone of your post, it sounds like folks just aren't willing to extend you any good will. Why exactly that is, I can't tell you. I can however say that when supervisors have been unwilling to extend me goodwill and coworkers were taking my words out of context, I had a hand in my problems. You see I was, and still am very insecure about myself and my disability. At one time I was doing very well professionally, had a full time job and what not. But my insecurities got the better of me several times and at several jobs. I have done a lot of work on myself and my attitude, enough that I can see my defensiveness starting to rise and catch it before it comes out of my mouth or runs across my face like a marquee. Just a thought, I could be entirely off base.
