Taking over a dept

so I recently took over in my department, the person who was the head decided to step down and take the second spot. So I've been dealing with her still trying to be the boss and still trying to control the schedule. which is so damn aggravating she was off for two weeks and the Sunday she was do back she wanted me make sure her hours were what she wanted. Has anyone else had to deal with this and if so how did you deal with it? I'm so sick of her trying to tell me how to do my job. Help please

They should have moved her to another store.

I have it worse.

The manager and the back-up stepped down.  I am in charge now and worked with them several years ago.

They have been mostly good sports but they whine too much.  And, they are not setting good attitude examples for my other coworkers.  I use their piss poor attitude to motivate my other coworkers.

Other than that, I got everything under control.

Tell her to put a request into the eschedule.  Explain you will schedule her according to the availability she has on the eschedule.  Try to schedule her as many hours away from you as possible.  You need to nip this in the bud and straighten this out now.  Is it just the schedule she is trying to control?

Oh I've done that trust me, the problem with that is that she requested to work Monday through Friday no weekends, Im the dept head and I even work weekends so thats a no, she refuses to stay after 3pm each day, and she is the one after me on the schedule so I always basicslly work with her. She is trying to control everything basicilly everything I do she wants to control.

OK, your situation is different.  My problems might retire in the next 6 months.  And, they are buddies with the store manager.  So, if they want time off, they skip me and go directly to the store manager.  But, the store manager has not stopped me from doing what I do so it doesn't bother me.  I am the Night Manager and my goal is to get the work done efficiently daily.

I haven't had to write the schedules yet but I do alter them after they come out to make the work flow better.

You are the Lead now.  The ex Lead needs to understand that.  The rule we go by here is that full timers are permitted to have one regular day off a week.  You should be allowed to write the schedule based on the needs of the business.  If she isn't available after 3pm or on weekends, then she really isn't full time.  Full timers have open availability hour wise.

A co manager from another store told me if I have any problems with the previous night manager, that I should let him know that the nursing home down the street is hiring.  lol.  He was kidding of course.

If you get along with your store manager, I suggest you discuss it with them and see if they can help you with this.  A good store manager will help you transition and stand behind your decisions as long as they are practical.

Good luck with it.

It is my understanding that even full timers have to work evenings and weekends, or maybe that's a rule only in my store. If you can, cut her hours. She's restricted her schedule, you have to schedule in a way that meets the company's needs. Kroger is there to turn a profit, it's not a social assistance program!

You have my sympathies, we are going through a power struggle in my department too with a back up who stepped down. She tried transferring to another store, but has such a bad reputation for behaving rudely, they wouldn't take her. The new back up is getting annoyed with her meddling with the shifts and misdirecting people.
