How to call out of work due to snow storm?

I live in Virginia and currently we're being hit by Winter Storm Jonas. It's snowing right now and today we're expected to get 3-6 inches, & that's only for today not including the added on 1-3 expected to continue onto tomorrow. I'm scheduled to work 7am-12am as the opening bagger but I can't make it to work in this condition. I live 20 minutes and 12 miles away from my job. I have to take a highway to get there. Virginia doesn't have an efficient or speedy clean up crew. I understand some states have clean up crews on the job as snow as the snow hits but Virginia usually takes about a day or 2 before attempting to clean anything.

My question is how do I call out for work tomorrow? I know y'all are probably thinking "Just say you can't come in because of the weather dumb ass," but my managers hates it when I call out. Every time I call out they get an attitude. I don't call out for b.s. either I call out for what I think are rational reasons to not be there like a stomach virus, my car door falling off the hinges and needing to take it to a body shop. It's just when I call out they make me feel like a terrible person so I guess I'm trying to ask if there's a certain way I should put this so they won't get an attitude with me or try to reprimand me.

Virginian here, just call and tell them what you told us in the 1st paragraph: "Sorry, I can't come in because the drive is too hazardous". If they offer you are ride (both ways!) take it, otherwise nope, end of story. A good third of our employees called out today, chances are very high you're not the only one calling out in your store.

I took your advice and it worked. blankstare I spoke with my usual uptight manager & she sounded like she was in a good mood & she just said "OK!" & that was that. I'm shocked honestly. What I want to know is why is the store opened tomorrow. Idk how people are going to manage to make it out of their houses to shop.

You're gonna work for 17 hours? You put "7am-12am as the opening bagger". Just pointing it out.

We've got some people holed up at a hotel close to our Kroger (paid for by Kroger), some people with 4-wheel drive, and some who were probably raised in the Arctic :P

We had very few customers yesterday, maybe 5-10 in the store at a time, except for that little lull when some more people came in. Mostly we conditioned a LOT.

I'll take that. Many times, if the S.M. wants to shut down, their boss--the district, or market manager---will actually over ride that decision. It's insane and needlessly risky...but dumb customers continue to support it by insisting on coming in.
