Does your Deli waste this many sandwiches?

I work in a Boar's Head deli and we make way too many sandwiches every morning. At night I have to throw away at least ten sandwiches, at the most forty sandwiches. We record how many sandwiches are being thrown away at night but they never seem to change the endless number of sandwiches they make in the morning. Is there anything I can do about this? We waste so much food in the deli but this just seems excessive and preventable. I would really like to talk to someone about this at my store but I'm not sure who to talk to. I've also thought about contacting Boar's Head, I doubt they would enjoy this amount of waste. Any ideas?

I also work in a Boar's Head store/deli.  We also make the sandwiches, wraps and Boar's Head salads.  What we do each morning, is pull whatever the day's date is, (for example today is Feb 1st, so we would pull the 1st), scan the salads as outdated.  The wraps and sandwiches, we scan out as samples, and use them as samples.  This greatly helps waste and shrink.  Remember, the sandwiches, salads and wraps get 2 days:  the day you make them plus the next day.  The shelf life and your sales should go together in planning how much to make.  Get with your deli manager and they can pull the sales to help plan.  Hope this helps!!

Are you throwing out sandwiches made the same day? Because you shouldn't be doing that. In our store they get a shelf-life of 3 days. It makes no sense to make sandwiches in the morning and then throw them out.

When I worked in the deli the amount of waste was depressing. They would cook up whole chickens and turkeys, put them out on the warmer, and wind up throwing most of them out at the end of the day. Plus all the hot line foods, sandwiches, etc.

The amount of waste and discarded food overall at Kroger is also very sad. I would guess literally TONS of wasted, out-dated, unsold food from every location in the grocery winds up in the garbage chute every day.

Don't get me talking about the TONS of un-recycled plastic products thrown into the trash as well.

Kroger is just a depressing place. It wastes food and it wastes human effort and talent.

Glad I am GONE!

Yeah, it was shameful to see all the waste. The store I was working at didn't make sandwiches, but the amount of chicken that was thrown out was madness. You would think that they would've at least let the workers take em home if they were still "fresh", but no, just throw it out and let the rats have it...it's sinful.
