Diversity promotion

So there's a young black dude co manager at the Kroger I shop at; I had an interesting chat with him the other night.

I don't know what possessed him to be so open with his personal disclosure to me, but I seem to have that effect on some people.

He told me he's 23, been with Kroger less than 2 years, is going to college for business admin. .......... and has absolutely NO prior mgmt. experience within Kroger. He was an o.n. stocker. GOING to college, no degree yet. Told me he's "getting as far and as fast away from Kroger as he can" once he graduates. But here comes the best part.

He told me, and I quote, "I was approached by district and told they're pushing for diversity promotion in the company, which means they want MY black ass. Sheeeeeiiit. You think I ain't gonna play that race card?"

To his credit he seems to always be there, always working on something and not just milking the whole thing.

But S T I L L  . . . . . . . . . disbelief

------before any one comes after me for being a racist: I'm all about a fair shot for any one who deserves it based on dedication and skill.

But getting flung to the front of the line just because how you look is BULLSH!T. There are non minorities who've spent decades busting their asses and will NEVER see those promotions.

And I'm guessing you're black because, even tho dude explained thoroughly his position, you went after him any way. Dick.

awww to bad you beat me to the punch! Some so called minorities are gonna hate and play the race game no matter what, and when they feel threatened with logic they counter with shiitty insults.

If you are black and female, you write your own ticket.

It is not racist if it is TRUE. People need to learn this fast.

 THANK YOU.

Especially when, as I described, the guy himself was laughing and BRAGGING about using the race card (he's totally cool by the way, known him for awhile now.....I applaud him for the smarts to use the system, but I'm pissed)that the system EXISTS).

I honestly don't doubt this. As backwards as this company is, of course they'd go for the laziest form of affirmative action to look like they actually care about diversity and their employees of color (as if they even give a **** about any employee). Appearing socially conscious is good for the bottom line but Kroger can't do anything right.

We have this goofy azz blonde co manager that we WANT to get promoted so we can get rid of her. She is the typical suburb brat that has no people skills. She is white tho so she would get ate up in a store with no white people. So i guess we are stuck with her.

Well, it's pretty good at being corrupt, stupid, and oppressive, but your analysis is right on.

Isn't diversity great? Just like the country Kroger has been down hill ever since.

My favorite setting to see diversity in is hospitals. People sick and fighting for their lives, and they're surrounded by 20--something 'minorities' who're all "an' giiiiiirrrrrl, y'all ju' doe-NO, I'uz like..." and "naw, nu-UH I ain't doin all-AT, y'all betta pay me mo or call someone ehss..."

Although to be fair about it, I'm seeing more and more white people pulling this **** too. Not just young ones, either.

Ok, I've read enough. Now it's my turn to weigh in on this.

I too am a black man fighting and striving to better myself in what is essentially a white man's world. That's right, you read that correctly the EXACT way I typed it: WHITE. MAN'S. WORLD. You're white? And don't believe me that this whole thing is rigged against non whites? I only wish you could experience it.

There's a LOT else I could say, but I'll leave you with this: who ever that brother is who's 'playing the race card', well, good for him. Four hundred years of slavery, tyranny and continued oppression are still VERY much front and center in this country, and any one of color who uses everything they can to further their dream is ok by me.

We have a non-white gay woman co-manager.   She's the one they call two face and she's dumber than a box of broken rocks.  I'm surprised she's not a district manager by now

Excuse moi.  I'm a 20yo straight white male and I definitely don't have it easy.  I have 63 cents in my pocket and am going into debt with my mother just to stay above water.  A lot of places wouldn't give me interviews, a lot more decided not to hire me after thanks to my tendency to stick my foot in my mouth in interviews.  Finally I got a job at a fast-food place, but due to the way their pay periods work and their requirement that everyone acquire (and pay for themselves) slip-resistant shoes, my first paycheck is unlikely to have more than about $50 on it.  I owe money to the university for some textbooks student aid didn't take care of, I owe money to my mother for back bills, food, and now gasoline, my car is slowly disintegrating and probably needs at least a grand in repairs at this point.  The most generous estimate I can come up with is a month and a half to dig myself out of the hole I'm in now, and at least another two weeks (if not another month) before I can afford to do anything more exciting than exist.  Those estimates are probably low, since the bills are going to keep coming.

I seem to have run out of white privilege; you got any idea where I could find some more?

I found a nice pair of slip resistant steel toe shoes at Walmart for $30, and so far they're actually holding up really well :) just thought that could help with cost for next time.
