is yr bakery full of hens?

So I've worked in a few departments but mostly the bakery. I have also had a slew of other jobs in different industries. I gotta ask--are your bakeries full of hens or is it just mine? For reference I am a female myself but have never been part of this mean girl hive mentality. The talking behind people's backs, setting people up for blame, you name it. And our pastry chef--the biggest diva I've ever met in my life, just insufferable. You would think she cured cancer or something. There are days I take extra bathroom breaks just to not be around my coworkers bitching, and the second it's 7 til the time I get off, I'm history. Is the grass really greener in other departments?

LOL i work in the bakery and i will say, yes lord yes that is true. We've all been guilty of talking crap about each other, and general bitching but my department is like a little dysfunctional family. I'm a female too but i will be the first to say we can be one of the bitchiest departments i've ever seen... but then at the end of the day we can still be friends. that said i'm pretty sure it's the same in every department because the person i hear most of the gossip in the store from is someone who works nutrition and produce.

I'm really glad I'm a man because I'd rather be dead than act out like bitches.

Sex toys and baby makers. That's all women are good for to men.

You need a couple men working in the bakery.  Women are less likely to be catty and bitchy if there are men around.  A department of all men gets along fine.  A department consisting of both men and women gets along fine.  A department of all women is trouble waiting to happen.  I will say that our floral department is the exception.  It's run by all women, but they seem to be more grown up and mature than a lot of the women working in other departments.

"Hens"?

Do you refer to male humans as "roosters"?

The male department head in our bakery is the bad one--screaming, bad-mouthing, and not developing or training his people.

Beyond that, Krogrr culture too often is despicable and vile.  Our intellectually-challenged store director seems to think back-stabbing of co-workers makes an associate "good".  To really bewilder him, try PRAISING a fellow associate; you will get the blankest stare of incomprehension you're ever seen.

Ha! Pick any store anywhere, and your deli/bakery is gonna be full of the "hens" you speak of.

I find them embarrassing, for the most part.

Not all of them, but a lot of them always look really rough, too. Haggard and mean lookin'... like they've done prison time at one point or another.

A few weeks ago, we had a training class come through our deli, and they pulled dept heads, backups, and a few other gals from other stores to learn / re-learn how to make chicken and a few other things. Right down the line, I thought "Damn, those are some rough, ugly bi#$ches. Cripes". Same thing when we had a cake decorating class not too long ago.

They could have been from any department for all I care. This is Kroger, not the Victoria Secret fashion show. Lol
