Starting at kroger soon for deli clerk position
Permalink

I just got hired on last sunday, I'm suppose to go in this sunday to pick up my uniform, fill out more paperwork, and watch some sort of video and then they are suppose to schedule my training time to be out at the training center in Alpharetta, ga.

Has any one been to that training center before? And what can I expect training wise.

Also what it's like working in the deli. This is my first job after being a stay at home mom for 11 years so I'm kind of nervous. hmm

Alpharetta? Oh God run now. NOW.

They sodomized me, made me drink urine and eat got feces. That was the first hour. It got worse.

It was three days and four nights of the most mind breaking terror I've ever experienced...this was five years ago and I'm still in therapy and changed identity over it.

They twisted my ovaries into mush and I can never bear children----other than the one they impregnated me with then sold on the black market.

R U N !

They will train you to do your job, little more important than that. Be glad you are getting proper training, its rare in most parts of the company.

Deli can be super hectic, and reports from multiple people suggest that deli can be a difficult place socially.

Just remember, its retail work. A lot of people will be buttheads over minor crap, and you are paid by the hour. Do your job, make friends if you can, don't get too worked up over company stuff.

 Thanks for the advice

I've never been too much of a social butterfly but I'm told I have a pleasing personality when it comes to customer service and a nice attitude. Or at least that's what the deli manager said when she interviewed me.

I'm not really too much sweating if I make many friends just basically approaching with the avoid all work place drama strategy (though I'm sure it might be impossible sometimes)

Deli is a very hard department to work in. There is so much paperwork involved and if you even miss ONE thing, you can get written up for it because health reasons (I kid you not, I got written up for not doing the temp logs, even though I wasn't even trained on them at that point). CYOA.

Be prepared for a lot of work and lots of late hours.  As the new person, you will close - A LOT - due to seniority, and this being a union job.  The closing clerks as a rule do ALL of the cleanup - the fryers, slicers, floors, etc.  All while having to wait on customers.  Sundays are usually the busiest day.  Hopefully you will have some decent coworkers so it shouldn't be so bad.  But beware, sometimes some of the older employees, ones with 20+years, tend to be a little bossy.

Just stick with it, don't let anyone push you around, and most important, don't take any BS, and don't be afraid to stand up for yourself!!
