If I did, I could get five or seven or ten mini-breaks a day during my eight hour shift, on top of a regular break. Of course, I'd be giving up years of my life in exchange for that... but hey, it would make my life easier in the short term!!
Seriously though, it irritates me to no end to see people in the deli, produce and bakery (mainly these departments), just stroll outside whenever they want and congregate around the corner for smoke breaks... multiple times a day... and management says NOTHING. Like, what the hell? And I see many of these same people hanging around the Starbucks in our store, casually chatting away with the employees behind the kiosk both during and after their drinks (that they aren't even supposed to have while on the clock!) are being made. Of course, they feel they are entitled to a paid break too on top of all this.
Seriously!? I'm just not even going to try that hard anymore at this job because why should I when I see stuff like this go down with no consequences?
If someone has a habit of taking long breaks, I'll say something like, "Did you take a break or a lunch? Because you sure were gone a long time." or "How many breaks are you going to take?" I don't come out and directly tell them not to do that but I let them know that I'm on to them.
Sh!t like this is part of what I don't miss about retail. That, and being white and watching blacks get away with ANYTHING because white female managers either A) fuking them, B)white male mgrs too scared to do anything, or C) black management showing total favoritism for fear of being labled Uncle Toms.
Btw, if mgmnt hasn't already stopped your store's smoking problem it ain't gonna change. Better get used to it or look for something else, you'll just get yourself in trouble making waves.
