Hello, I've been at kroger for a few years now and I'm visually impaired. Some people know because I tell them but if I don't you'll never know not unless you see how close I have to look at things. When I started working at Kroger I had 20/20 vision but a few years later that changed and I'm visually impaired and can't get to 20/20. I can still do my job no matter how close I have to look at something or if I have to zoom into something but I was looking to go into management but I'm worried that me being visually impaired I wont be accepted. I have a bioptic lenses to give me full driving rights but other than that I'm WORRIED>
Are you wanting to be a Department manager or a store manager?
Anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.
If you are able to do your job, then visual impairment shouldn't be a problem. That would be a protected class so they shouldn't use it as a reason not to promote you. You will have to find a way to make it work for you. Don't ask for special accommodations to do a management job and I don't see why you would be rejected.
Is there any way to get glasses so where you don't have to be so close to things to see them? I met a truck driver that had tri-focals because his eyes were so bad.
I had 20/20 vision until about 3 years ago. Never wore glasses before. Too old to try and learn how to wear contact lenses. The doctor said at my age is about when the eye muscle decides not to work so well. I currently wear bifocals.
Hey there. I'm also VI and am a UC. I'd agree with what was said up above. Go and see what the requirements are then plan from there. I know I am the same way if I don't tell you, you won't see it til I have to look close. If you could provide a little more info on which department, others can point you in the right direction.
