I am a produce clerk. I have been thinking about leaving Kroger for a produce clerk position at another company. I am tired of working 6 day weeks, 7+ days straight, and working so much that my back and legs are so sore that I can't even sit or bend down quickly. It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have to do so much work myself. Most of the time, the people I work with are lazy and like to chat in the prep room for hours and get nothing done. Whenever I am scheduled to close, I am doing all the tables, from berries to apples to everything, conditioning, cleaning, etc. myself. Sometimes I don't even have time to take a second break and I am forced to stay 30-45 mins after my shift just to get everything in order. It is honestly making me sick and tired of working at Kroger. Management refuses to do anything because of seniority and the wrath of the union. How could I go about applying and looking at other companies to work at? Has anybody else done this while working at Kroger?
I only get paid $8.60 an hour too, which kills me the most.
Go to Walmart. You'll deal with many of the same ass-holery elements you're already suffering, but at least you'll get compensated. A few months ago they spiked their starting wage significantly.
Oh, and no bloodless soul sucking union to get diddled by.
