Has anyone every heard of a store manager taking money from store expenses to pay for their car that was damaged in the store parking lot and then getting demoted to a co-manager because it's stealing from Kroger?

....and this is a classic display of the principle: It's Who You Know.
This SM should have been fired AND prosecuted, if only to set an unflinching example for all to see, none to confuse.
That they're still in management at all tells me you can expect to learn of their return to SM status at another store, eventually.
There was a courtesy clerk at my store that was terminated on the spot for stealing a sixteen ounce soda that cost maybe $1.80 with tax. I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences in that instance, but in comparison to something like what this store manager did, a demotion to co-manager hardly seems to go far enough.
It's my understanding Kroger is not responsible for any damages to your vehicle that occurs in the parking lot. My friend hasn't had much luck with this, but you can file a report at www.ethicspoint.com maybe your division will take the reports more serious.
