Store transfer before completely full time
Permalink

Today I learned that I earned full time after doing 12+ weeks of 40 hours. I had to go do an interview with the store manager and sign a paper. While there, I asked about the possibility of transferring stores. I didn't know that this was a bad question. My manager then declined to give me full time until them and I come up with a solution of some kind. They said I wouldn't be made full time at another store. The store I'm currently working at has a HUGE problem with keeping employees and they still don't know why people quit and transfer. I hate the store I'm currently at and have been thinking about transferring or just quitting for a couple of months now. The reason I gave for the transfer was that I lived far away, which is true, 20 miles away, and I want to work at a store closer to home. The store I currently work at is also huge and I don't get enough help in my dept and I don't get paid enough for all the work I have to do to cover for 2+ employees.

I'm just wondering where will this go? Has anybody else had this happen to them? Can they really withhold my full time status, fire me, or anything like that? I don't think they will drastically cut my hours as I am critical to the dept and if they start giving me 36/38 hours I will just quit.

Thanks,

farewell

For them it's just a matter of investment. Do they want to give full time status to someone who is going to transfer stores, or should they do it for someone who will stay? There's a limit on full timers that they could have. So from their standpoint, they don't wanna use it on someone who is leaving soon.

But full time has its perks. There's a nice pay increase to somewhat lessen the blow of gas costs, but you yourself will have to outweigh the pros and cons.

I'm not sure if they have anybody who would take my full time unless somebody from another store transfers. It's not like I'm putting in my 2 weeks notice to leave Kroger, I would be going to another Kroger store. If they actually tried to find out why nobody wants to work at that store instead of just putting up lousy bonuses and higher starting rates, maybe people would stay.

Do they have the right to withhold my full time status that I have worked very hard for? Why can't they just give me full time first and let me explore the possibilities of another store? That's really what I was trying to ask but they took it the wrong way. If there are no other desirable stores, I will stay with my current store. But now, I have to wait for them to discuss things and let me know what's going to happen.

I would be working at Kroger for one full year in September so it's pretty bad timing for them to be robbing my of my benefits. What options do I have?

I really don't know how much longer they can really hold onto that 70-30 ratio on part time to full time employees anyway. Most stores it seems are so understaffed that hours are given to anyone who wants them. There's no reason for them not to give you full time status that I can see but that's just me.

. . .  I earned full time after doing 12+ weeks of 40 hours.

That sounds complete, not incomplete.

I had to go do an interview with the store manager and sign a paper.

An interview for what?

What was on the paper?

. . .  manager then declined to give me full time until them and I come up with a solution of some kind.

A solution to what?

Sounds like the only problem is your medieval store king refusing to recognize the rule of law.  (Dumb, mean managers seem to be the worst about this.)

Has anybody else had this happen to them?

It's routine for Krogrr to monitor/thwart an associate nearing full-time status.  Red-flag email comes from HR to the stores, but it isn't always timely.

Can they really withhold my full time status, fire me, or anything like that?

For what?  Complying with the contract?

Maybe you should ask if it is store management's understanding that they, too, are obligated to abide by the contract.
