Working so much for so less

My official position at Kroger is a courtesy clerk.  But lately, I have been working in dairy to help them out because they haven't had anyone. Well I'll work it for a week or two then I'll get pulled back upfront. Until they need someone to help cover again..then they put me back there again. Normally I'm a pretty good team player but I can't get a raise being just a courtesy clerk. I'm one of their main baggers and I've been there a year. Does anybody else have a problem like thay with their store not wanting to transfer them to another department?  Even tho you been working that department probably 6 of the last 8 weeks ?

What state are you in?

Your contract will dictate your jobs.  The other departments usually only take people over 18.

Have you asked your store manager to transfer you to Dairy?  The good CCs that show they are able to work well and are reliable are usually transferred to the other departments

Under my contract, CCs are not supposed to work in other departments unless it is an emergency.  The store manager could get a large fine from the union for having you work outside of your job description(pay grade).  You could raise a stink about it to your shop steward.  But, that would put you on the store managers' radar.  You might not be working in the dairy anymore and you might be getting less hours as a CC without a chance to move to another department in the store.

Maybe the store manager thinks you are a cashier.  They are allowed to run stock I think.
