A customer we call whiskers. whiskers wants to know the EXACT weight of a cake EVEN THOUGH it weighs EXACTLY the same as the other cake she buys. She wants to know the EXACT amount of a package if frozen chicken that says approx 10 pcs. Wants to know how premade potato salad is made.
She'll bug you on your break, lunch, and EVEN ON YOUR OWN Time. Heaven help you if you don't want to waste your time
Off helping her. You are a racist bastard if you do not help
Her. And if you tell her not to call you racist? Be prepared for a screaming match.
That's not as bad as cat piss lady. We used to have a lady who lived in her car come in our store all the time. She wore the same clothes all the time and did not bathe. She smelled like cat piss and you could smell her isles over.
Cookie lady who had to have her cookies made a certain way (half raw) because she would not, could not buy them if they were too dark. Even if you specially made them for her if they were still too dark she would bitch you out or else go to management and complain.
Well eventually she was told that we have to cook them properly to standard. She threatened to never come back, blah blah...well she still shops there.
The people who bring their reusebale bags are a PITA---they have attitudes. And "certain" customers who want things double-bagged when there is only one itemi in the bag!
Sues claim to fame...buying 20-50 of the same item. She tries to tell you your job...per say...if coupon scans you have to take it (um, not if it is not the right product). Taking all manufacturer cupon off shelved products for future use. Returning products after using fuel points....etc. drives me nuts she does.
Any customer at the meat counter who wants multiple packages of the same product. I need 7 packs of one chicken breast each (not kidding, this guy does this all the time.) Divide it up your own freaking self, damn it.
Or the pork chop guy who always gives me nasty looks when he comes in after one bad experience. He came to the counter asking if we would have any of the bone in pork chops in the service counter, which were empty. I told him most likely not because 1. we rarely had those in the service counter, 2. it was a busy sunday and the whole cutting room was bloody and dirty from cutting beef and we did not want to cross contaminate. I told him there were other choices for bone in pork chops packed up, but he did not want that, and we were actually at that moment out of that one pork chop on the floor. He told me no, I want the one in the service case. I kept trying to explain to him what was going on and offered to help in several other ways. He was an absolute condescending father-like jerk that treated me so because I'm younger than him and was in customer service. After sighing and refusing to listen to me, he said "you're not listening, I want a yes or no answer. I don't care about the ones out there and do not want to hear about it." I told him no. Then he asked for me to check in the back for more of the pre packed ones. I said sure, walked off to the cooler, and took a little break in the bathroom instead of going to see him again. What a dick.
I have plenty of horror stories from the meat and seafood department, so I'll just stop there.
I hate the ones who come to the bakery expecting me to mark stuff down for them just because I have an RF unit in my hand. They're like vultures. I'll be trying to do a CAP report and I'll have to stop and exit out and go look for a printer just because some old bat wants something marked down. The worst ones are the ones who go around looking for items we're going to mark down and holding them until they see the markdown person. I know policy is to have markdowns done by 9 AM, and believe me there are some people who show right at that time, but we usually don't get ours done until about 10 AM or 11 AM. Sometimes it can be even later if there's nobody around to do it. Personally, I think they need to wait until 7 PM. Give stuff as much opportunity to sell at full price before marking it down
Can you 'flip' your gun using the green or red dot keys on the top left and right corners? Those let you log in to a second session on the same gun, so you can perform two tasks at once. You can interrupt your CAP to do markdowns seamlessly. The gun will still time-out if you take too long on the other screen.
Also, markdowns are generally a great resource but it's tough to avoid a culture of markdowns. The goal is to sell the product at retail, and not let people hunger for price reductions while sacrificing quality. A good way to avoid a lot of markdowns is to try creative sampling before the product goes out of code. Work with the deli, cheese shop, or even produce to find a good combination to offer customers.
