I have 4 personal days i have not used yet. I was paid for them this week. I still want to use them and have tried but my manager keeps denying them saying understaffed. are there any union rules or anything that says kroger has to give me my personal days or can they just pay me for them and not let me actually take the days off?
Sorry, but you snooze you lose. They don't have to give you the time off if it's past the cutoff date stated in the contract. Maybe if your supervisor is nice enough, you might be able take one or two during the calm period right after Thanksgiving and before the Christmas madness begins.
Why would it be past the cutoff? Do some contracts block weeks for personal days? I know here you can use them any time before the end of the year. Certain weeks are blocked for vacation weeks, but not Personal days.

Under some contracts, you have to take your personal days by a certain date. Here it's December 1st. Vacations can be taken anytime unless it's a blocked week in which case only one person in the department can go. One year our cake decorator took off the week of Christmas to visit her family overseas.
