i have read the Kroger hand book but still have questions.. can a Kroger employee request a day off dealing with a family emergency or when they are taking their memeber to a doctors appointment?.. isnt Kroger suppose to be helping their employees when they need it? ...
Yes, you can request DR appt off and if you have a family emergency you need to call and explain to a manager. They can't tell you no but can guilt trip you. Just be prepared to fight a write up if the manager is particularly nasty.
For deaths in the immediate family you are allowed 3 days of paid time off, in West Virginia.

But if you have the dr's note, bye bye write up, I banish you to the land of non existence. But kroger will still find loopholes note or not.
Yep, If you start consistently bringing in notes the company will start to use what is called a "consistent abuser" policy and begin disregarding dr notes. Even if you're legit sick all the time.

My grandma was dying (she didn't though, but we didn't know!) and my mom needed my sister and me immediately. So we left for a week and trust me it was harder on her, since she was a first year teacher missing her first week. I was able to get paid for the week by turning it into my vacation ha. I had a stellar record so I called and just presented it as the facts - I'm leaving, I can't work this week, I'm sorry.
I only got into trouble the day I got back because I spent Friday swearing up and down I'd be back to work by Sunday. Not 2 hours before my shift, my sister wrecked her car! And refused any help from friends, wanting me with her. My manager said, "You're getting to be unreliable."
I still didn't come in! And I didn't get written up for it either.
I got grief on another call in almost 2 years later but no write up or demand for a note. It was super bad timing, but I was coming back from my vacation and we got in a wreck that totaled the car at 5pm. I had to be at work at 7 the next morning so I called in from the ER and got a big sigh. Then, well... the next day things were not happening fast and I had work at 1:30 that night so I called in again and got "Are you ever coming back?"
anyway... no write ups... so it just depends. they can suck it, you're not making enough money to sacrifice your family

ehhh but say bring in something that says your immune compromised. and start disregarding and wind up getting sued. You legally cannot inhibit someones ability to work that there i can walk in with 100 doctors notes you HAVE to legally accept them all. You will have HIPPA, FMLA, and every federal paper and branch down your neck by making that mistake. if someone is sick. Theyre sick. The LEAST that would happen would be manager would be fired by corporate. And corporate would be sued. No matter any contract you signed. A contract physically cannot go against the law. that makes it an illegal and void. I work at Kroger but also sold life and health insurance. If I misspelled someones name that was sent back and not legally binding. or was considered a voidable contract which in court could be tossed. but you not allow someone to work with licensed physician notes? Thats blatant discrimination and major discriminatory practices and I would contact a lawyer ASAP.
