Hours are decided by ELMS. ELMS is based on last years sales, and a few other factors. Each department gets so many hours. Full time people get their 40 hours first. Any hours remaining get divided between part timers based on availability. If you need more hours, ask your district coordinator if there are any stores that need extra help. If you are a good worker, they might be able to find you some extra hours in the district.
My store did over 225k last year about this year did around 230k we had almost 200 hours on the front end and 175 this year. hours are going down and it's not likely to do up anytime soon.

Yea, I had figured since things are slow in between major holidays and the rest of the year the hours would be cut. But your explanation about the whole ELMS thing is definitely enlightening. As I didn't realize it was based off the years sales and so forth. But to say the least I am more than a little bit thrilled about it myself a bit. Cause thus far I am no longer on the evening shift with all that additional baking that needs to be done and that puts behind the cleaning in bakery. But it is sucking for my colleagues with kids and another lady whose husband had back surgery recently and they were just down to her pay check. So she is working at our store and somewhere else.
Just what was uber eye opening to me was the fact that our back up assistant to the Dept. head, had said after my co-worker had come back from working at the other store, they wanted her to transfer over that way. But the back up chick was like "and that is why we don't send our best people to other districts". I didn't even realize it was like that between the districts. Considering the fact that they sent a majority of the Deli people to another district to help them get prepared for their grand opening in another area. So I didn't see what the whole beef was.
We don't have two week scheduling in our division and there's been no mention of it coming. What's ridiculous though is last year, when we did the 2016 Associate Insight Survey, pretty much the only thing Kroger cited as an example of "we're listening" was the implementation of two week scheduling, which was supposedly asked for by a majority of associates in 2015 (yeah, I'm sure, two week scheduling was at the top of what most associates wanted from Kroger) and yet, there is still no sign or talk of two week scheduling in my division. Not that I care, mind you, but I thought it was both funny and sad how Kroger claimed to give us something and we never got that something and who knows when/if we ever will.
Yes, this is the "slow" time of the year, by the way. Only it doesn't "feel" that way because employee hours have been reduced "in accordance" with the drop in business. So you may have fewer customers in the store, but you also have fewer employees/shorter shifts. That's life at Kroger, though... where every day is a no-win scenario.
Upper Management is greedy, in other words, The More hours they give You the less of a bonus they get.
They don't care if You have to pay rent, all they care about is getting their bonus.

The President and all his cronies rarely see inside the stores so they don't give a **** what it really looks like. On the off chance they will go to a store, they'll pump in enough hours to make it look neat and tidy and give the illusion that it's just another week of high sales, perfectly stocked and conditioned shelves, and happy employees. Then they'll go back to their golden mansion in Louieville or Cincy (wherever the ****s like to live these days) and jack off while telling each other how great they're doing
We had a remodel in 2015. Our sales keep going HIGHER AND HIGHER and our allotted hours keep getting LOWER AND LOWER!!!! Total bull**** ALL departments are suffering from not enough help to get everything done in a timely manner. There are many logistic and cleaning issues just barely visible "under the surface gloss".
Skeleton crews are the order of the day. Front End keeps calling for cashiers and baggers over the intercom, even though anyone "available" is already bogged down with plenty that needs to get done in their respective departments.
ELMS is a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The President of Kroger needs to get out of his ivory tower, go around and visit many Kroger stores UNANNOUNCED and INCOGNITO and get a REAL FEEL For the situations in a lot of the stores.

I honestly don't think the president of Kroger gives a **** as long as he is getting his bonus. They are aware of the sweatshops they are running but do not care. They don't care about customers as long as customers spend money in their stores. They don't care about anybody on the company ladder below them. The only thing you can do is go to work, give your best effort and not give a rats ass about Kroger when you are not clocked in.
