How long does it take for someone to get full time hours? Do you need to work full time to get Medical Insurance? Does Kroger provide Medical Insurance? I always thought, if you show you're willing to work, want the hours, learn fast, and do your job well you got the hours. No one has spoken to me about full-time or part-time availability or about how I'm doing! It seems that the less you work and more you slack, the more hours you get and the easier they are on you. That doesn't seem right! It seems that everyone in the Union becomes less concerned about their jobs and works less. I'm not not that type of person, but I'm thinking it's time for me to be that person and no longer try. Those are the ones who seem to get the rewards!

What department?

How many hours are you getting?

What state?

Under my contract, if you average less than 26 hours a week, you do not get insurance.

Make sure your availability is open.  Ask Department manager to call you in when they need extra help.

Full time takes years or knowing the right people.

My dept manager gave me full time by giving me 40 hours for 12 weeks and I was there less than a year. I learned a lot and worked very hard though.

Were you in the same department the whole time?  Only the Meat contracts give full time like that around here.  Regular clerks have to wait until someone retires or dies.

I worked at a store like that previously for a year. Department head was absolute **** and didn't care about the staff at all, was under the age of 24 and only cared about getting laid. She was a total whore. Assistant manager was my friend in work a personal matters, always kept us going and kept the FE under control.

Asst. left because she got a better position at a brand new store, leaving the FE to go to hell in a handbasket. I Was up for promotion, got taken from me by a blonde dude that was ripped, but who had been hired only for a week. That was my final straw, I transferred stores.

Now, i'm at a wonderful new store, ironically with the Asst. Manager who originally left our first store, but only temporarily because she's getting another promotion and moving to another store. This store actually cares, the management cares, and i'm so glad i'm at a new one. My managers are awesome and the staff is all young, super nice people. A little drama, but its not really talked openly about like at my previous store.

Once I came to my new store, they asked me about hours, I said i was always available after 10:30. Manager said he'd give me all the hours he could. Was told later I had the highest seniority, even just coming into the new store, and I would be next to get full time. My management is helping me keep 40 hours a week for 12 weeks to become full time. Hours haven't dropped once. Being trained as supervisor/customer service as well with an override my first week. They have a lot of trust in me.

Basically, i'm just saying it depends on the store you're in. You may not think about this ****, but the environment of your store and the social status of the employees make a HUGE difference. You might want to try to change stores.

Yes! I love the department I work in (Deli).

Deli! About 26 hours! I haven't been there, but a couple months. They know I'll come in when they call and also know my availability is full time. None of that has changed. Someone changed the schedule on me without informing me and I was called. I went in but was late because I didn't know I had to work. Now they aren't bothering to call me or schedule me more hours. It wasn't my fault the person didn't inform when changing the schedule, but I'm the one paying for it. 2 slackers have a problem with me and are now getting the hours. This is why I need to become a slacker and lazy. I need to stop trying to do my job right. It seems the more you slack and complain about others, to management, the more you get rewarded.

I just looked at my schedule for next week and they are giving me even less hours/ I am going to become lazy! The ones who are actually not doing their jobs are getting rewarded, while I'm getting less hours. If they think I'll quit because I'm not getting the hours they are wrong! I don't quit anything!

You are so right about the environment you work in. When working with a few of my team members, we actually work like a team. When working with others it feels like I'm the only one working. Those are the ones who give off the negative vibes and complain to management, about me, if they actually have to do some work.

Don't fret! I can relate. It is being done to me as well. If you love your job just hang in there and ignore the little things. I think you have to work 40 hours a week for 12 weeks in order to get medical Insurance through the company. At least that's what I've been told. I read when I was hired, part-time, but I'm not really even scheduled that. I get less than part-time hours. I'm just thinking of it as a vacation and less time that I have to deal with the chaos. After all spring is almost here and I would rather be enjoying the weather than sitting in there dealing with the chaos. As long as I have a job they can schedule me as little hours as they want. I Love my job, but I'm not going to let those things affect me and my work.

People just don't realize it. My good Asst. Manager ended up going to another brand new store where they would actually get the credit they deserve for doing the CSR's full duties. I left shortly after I was passed over for promotion. I actually randomly got assigned to work at a new store, I hated it, I tried to trade the shift and get out of it but I couldn't. That night I signed/wrote intent to transfer letters and turned it into both stores. I was transferred the monday after that weekend.

My store is the same way, everyone is friendly for the most part. Obviously some people are going to rub each other the wrong way sometimes, but nothing major. We run between registers a lot to do alcohol verifications/watch SCO/and to help each other with register issues. It's a huge team, and im not even really friends with that many people. They just treat you nicely and respect you .- and based on my old store, I really wasn't expecting that. That is the kind of perfect environment to be able to move up, if that's something you hope to do.

I don't think it has to do with anything reflecting on you. It's possible they got in a new batch of new hires, and when that happens, everyones hours drop. Your hours suffered the most because you had the lowest seniority before any of the new hires were there. Management and full time workers are always priority for hours, then seniority. If you're only available 12pm - 4pm, they will likely have a full timer that has that shift and not need you on it.

WOW! I'm not only available 12-4. I'm available 24/7. You must be confusing me with someone else. My availability has always been open. I'll work 3rd shift and even work in more than one department if it will give me the hours. I do have another job, but that job is willing to work with any hours that Kroger assigns me. I actually don't think anyone has even asked me that since the day I was hired. When I was hired I had open availability. It says that in my eschedule also. None of that has changed.

Sorry for the confusion - no one on this forum knows you personally, this isnt a forum for just your store, i couldnt be confusing you with someone else. Youre acting like you're talking to management and this is the last place to do it.

Only available 12pm - 4pm as just an example, that if you had limits on your availability then you would get less hours if there are full time workers during that time. Most likely, like i said, they hired a bunch of new people and you had the lowest senority, so your hours are the first ones to drop

Oh. OK Well I apologize! I didn't know it was a metaphor. As for talking to management and right place: Management has responded on here before. I have seen changes be made after someone posts on here. They do read and pay attention to this forum.
