Out of curiousity...how does the day shift in your dept. treat the night shift at your store? Or vice versa

I only ask, but I don't know what's been in the "water" lately. But it seems at my store lately it's a battle between day shift and night shift in the bakery at times. I mean I get that the bakers are the first ones to see the dept. when they come in at midnight and will formulate their opinions about stuff. And yes at times it is true there are some folks on the closing crew that will outrightly tell you coming in what they will and won't do for the night(namely re-filling the floor or going into the freezer. And therein, making working closing shift all the harder cause with clean up, packaging up cookies still, and other duties. It's kind of hard as hell running back and forth to the freezer, wait on customers and do other stuff, while peeps are taking 99 breaks or coming up with excuses to not pitch in).

And as someone that has often had to do one day of going in on closing and having to snap back up for an earlier shift. I swear it is totally causing me to want to pull my hair out on either end of the spectrum some days. And if not go to that extreme, the stress of it all is causing me to not do that great at my own duties(hence I'm gladly going to enjoy these next few days off so I can relax and get my head/crap together before I go in again). Which has never happened to me in my life. I can't say I haven't made mistakes before, but having to do too many things to make sure at least the majority of work gets done while others are lolly gagging or what have you, is making me a bit sloppier than usual. And that is definitely not me, as I'm typically the first person someone would think of as being uber reliable and dependable and very diligent.

I'm also feeling the brunt of being the scape goat when I'm scheduled to come in earlier the next day or shift too at times. And that alone is frustrating as hell to me. I mean I know people on the day shift have seen that I can be dependable true enough. But dude I'm NOT the one in charge when I'm on closing! So I hate how some of them deem me to be the one to get on about why the floor wasn't done a certain way. Or why wasn't the floor totally and completely stocked for the night. I mean we are all freaking adults. If you want to gripe and witch at someone do it for the whole of everyone on the different shifts! And not just one person!

End of rant. Sorry for doing my own witching but got calls just today asking if I could come in tomorrow earlier and then the week after that to work in Deli. And I'm still feeling stressed out over the last few days of the above treatment. >_<

Those of us who work afternoons or nights (my usual shift is 3-11) hardly know the day shift people. I know a couple but in our store there is very little interaction

Man I wish it were that lucky in the bakery. But I think do to some folks being there so many years already and when new hires come in, they start them out on the earlier shifts, so they can be "trained". So about everyone ends up on a earlier shift or a later one when your one of the clerks. Unless of course you put in to have strictly evenings from what I've seen.

But yea, I guess having them bump me to open availability, I'm hitting all kinds of shifts. And the fun they bring.

Do the day staff have any idea where things are in the store? Do they understand that randomly hiding a steak, say, behind bottles of bleach DOES NOT HELP?

Customers just leave returns right out in the open. And usually it's an odd assortment of things.

But half a dozen types of deodorant behind the spaghetti sauce? Probably day crew working returns.

And by the way: sorry about using crates on waste container platforms to help with stocking. I' much rather have small carts and OSHA approved footstools. But 2-4 crates on wheels is what we get.

Sounds like the frustrations are real at your store too. Not sure about the other depts. in my store going through that, but they might. Although I do agree with you about the customers leaving random items all over the displays.

Namely one of our back displays that has the flat breads and biscuit type of items. Found all kinds of doughnuts, clothing items, etc. back there. Hence, I'm not a big fan of re-filling the floor at times. You just never know what the hell you are are going to find. Thankfully it's not been a big wad of gum or anything else gross just yet.

One of the most annoying things about this is that the Clicklist staff carries cute little pocket calculator size scanners. If only the restocking crew had those! They could scan a package and know exactly where it belonged! (And get price and balance info as well.)

But stocking, conditioning, and restocking are dull and boring, not like the Exciting New World of Clicklist, so no go.

I hear ya on that. Clicklist definitely is the place to be. Heck we even had a huddle about making sure they can find all of their stuff. And make sure that we are fully stocked so if something is out they can challenge us why it's out and so forth.

But yea, going back to my initial post for this thread. I just be happy if folks would be willing to go into the freezer their fair of turns. So that way we could be on top of having things re-stocked, conditioned, and everything else the floor needs.

Oh man... On the grocery crew, every store I've been at (for 3 different companies no less), it's always day crew vs night crew on everything. The crews never get along.

That's why I wish we could have internal dept. huddles about important crap going down. Not just the numbers. As I think once some of the beef is put out there, and dealt with it might get better. Or I'm just an optimist praying for a miracle, lol.

Don't be too jealous. The Baymax handhelds are not the amazing little devices that they are made out to be. Are they helpful? At times, when they work properly; like most Kroger equipment, they're prone to breaking/not working right/requiring multiple resets/batteries suddenly dying despite a twenty minute battery warning having just popped up, and so on. Also, the accuracy of the Baymax leaves a lot to be desired... but that's partially attributed to Kompass coming in on a regular basis and moving stuff around with resets, but even still, there are aisles where one side may be entirely off when going strictly by the location indicated by Baymax. The number of functions available on the Baymax are also extremely limited (especially compared to a RF handheld), making it pretty much useless if the location information is wrong. All it's good for when you're out on the sales floor is (hopefully) sending you in the right direction and once you get there, telling you whether it's the right item or not upon scanning the item. Again too, that's assuming the Baymax will cooperate and actually scan the item or not keep you waiting for what seems like an eternity sometimes while it gives you the "Connecting to server..." message.

Do you have to sign into the Bymax handheld like the RF gun? If not, then I would think that is one area it has the RF beat lol. Cause seriously if you can't sign into the RF, you sooo can't do your job.

Yes, you must scan a barcode that is tied to your EUID as well as enter a personalized pin number in order to use a Baymax before you can do anything whatsoever with one.
