register belt explosion

I work in back of 733. Heard a loud, metallic, percussive boom this afternoon. Looked up front and saw smokey mushroom looking cloud. Belt on lane 10 was snapped and rolled up, compressor oil all over the place. Scared the hell out of the customers. Boom was heard by all in store. Lucky lane was closed at implosion time. That's my store. We got explosions. My store is the best. How do you want to be taken out by at Kroger today?

i wish something exciting like that would happen here. when our crap breaks down, it just sits there unattended to indefinitely. no explosions or anything like that. good thing nobody was hurt, though.

Hahahha!!! We've all had that "special kind" of management that we wish that would happen to. (Although I wouldn't actually want them hurt, it's fun to thunk about ; )

I was told the implosion was caught on security camera. Wonder how many thousands of YouTube hits that would get? Lol

Exactly why I shut off any belt that is still on auto or is continually running and closed when I am restocking paper and plastic at the registers as part of my routine. Why have the thing on if no one is using it for 12+ hours. That would be hilarious to see, not so hilarious if you happened to be in the way, and would probably result in management calling a cleanup company as I know that is something we as UCs / employees will never be asked to clean.
