Overheard a manager saying that more will be expected due to the higher pay rates. Manager in my store making rumblings about cutting hours to the 12 hour union minimum if we don't "give more" performance to the store. I just do the job I was trained to do. I am not here for the customer's emtertainment and I do not smile on command-I am very much my own person-this coming from someone who has racked up close to 10 Shining Star cards in less than a year. Leave me alone and let me do the job I was trained to do!!!

I doubt it.  The store runs on hours, not payroll dollars.

Our minimum wage increased to a whopping $10.00.

There was no particular cut in hours, just a gradual Kroger-style whittling thereof.

Our store cuts hours not because of payrates... because of (non) lack of hours. When asked when we will be given hours for a decent paycheck, we are answered with a shrug, or "when the company feels like it." I have 2 credit cards I'm paying off (not the cause of the outrageous debt.. but I have to deal with it) and 16-20 is NOT cutting it. It's been 4 weeks already. 5th week coming up soon I believe

My store manager has said during huddles on more than one occasion that the store is spending too much on wages for the amount of business we're doing, so I have wondered how much of a factor payroll plays in budgeting hours. Then again, store managers aren't exactly truthful one-hundred percent of the time, so it wouldn't surprise me if you're right and that he was either wrong or just flat out lying.

I'm not in the part of the country where the Local 1996 contract applies (my area falls under the Local 1000), but I'm kind of wondering what's going to happen if the union in my area is successful in getting a similar pay raise whenever the contract that expired on June 3rd finally gets replaced with a new one. I personally don't have to worry too much because I'm full time, but I'm concerned for some of my part time co-workers because I genuinely like a lot of the people that I work with and I'd hate to see them get fewer hours on average should wages go up.

I an the writer of the original post. I talked to my front-end manager and told him the situation. He said "the store manager doesn't know what he is talking about." He said *another* co-manager was responsible for the hours/wages/available hours administration, seems our store management doesn't know or care to give correct info

Each dept has set hrs given to them it is based on sales and predictions. If u are down in sales u are given less hours.

Hours get cut because management gets bonuses based on the employee pay costs/money made ratio. They push us to the most with the least possible hours.

Since wages have risen in some districts the complaint, "I only get paid XYZ" is taken out of the mix. Now Kroger pays a little bit more for entry level workers that are still crappy and can't understand a thing when given direction.

Then you probably got a store ops manager trying to look good on his labor sheets.

I work in the Atlanta division and our store has cut the FE hours by about 100 already... they are now having to constantly call people from drug gm / floral / nutrition and the AA up to the front to help cashier / bag lol
