So at my store I'm being forced to be a responder, there really isn't a lot of choices at the moment since they won't allow produce to respond anymore. It's really down to a few of us, and we are almost always cashiering because of it.

Someone in our district sold to someone underage and lost their job, so now we are getting the training we never got (alcohol and tobacco sales stuff)

It's not a hard mistake to make as I was told we don't need to ID for anyone that looks 27. But as it turns out, that's for tabacco only.

I'm reading over these read-and-signs and they look strict, and and although I don't want to make  it a huge deal, anything for the customer... I do want to be a team player..it's just... I didn't take the job with the understanding I needed to cashier...

am I forced to be a responder? I realize if I respond I am required to read and sign them (even though they've failed on that one for this long).

I'm afraid of repercussions if I refuse, will I lose my job?

The alcohol sales one says I have the right to refuse the sale, but let's say  I think that Big brother is buying for Little brother and I do refuse, and Big brother gets irate, causes a scene, I don't believe my manager would support me.

I saw it today, the manager forced me to accept fraudulent (duplicates of the same print out) coupons to 'make a customer happy'. I did it cause the boss said to do it.

But That can't fly with alcohol.

Just curious to know what you all think. I'll probably just sign and and not make a fuss over it, but I won't lie I'm really uncomfortable with it. I did NOT know I would have to cashier when I took this job.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

if you refuse alcohol sale theres nothing the managers can do. They cannot override you on that one. If you know it's wrong and the manager tells you to do it, not only could you lose your job and get fined, the manager can too.
Just tell the manager THEY can do it but you are not going to do it.

You have the right to refuse sale of smokes and alcohol to anyone you think might be abusing it. You put your foot down and take it off the belt. If they want to take it to a supervisor or a manager - let them. They can do it but you're not required to sell that stuff if you don't want to.

DON'T LOSE YOUR JOB FOR -ANYONE-.

I agree with this. Management might tell you to do. Bad sale. But they my be setting you up and they can't help you if you get fired for selling to a minor.
