Hell no. But what am I supposed to say to customers who think this is true, while being customer friendly. I can flat out say no, but they usually throw a fit.

Technically no.  Legally we can not hand out items for free.  If the company finds out we are handing too many items out for free it may cost us our job.  Best thing to do is use the department codes and just let it got to shrink and under charge them.  Still got to charge them something even if it's a penny.

You laugh and say something like "I know right" then have someone go get the price or another barcode. It's a stupid thing people like to say because they think they have a chance to be funny.

Tell then that if it's free if it doesn't scan, it must cost double if accidentally scanned twice lol.

So as to not inconvenience the customer sometimes I'll just ask for a price if it's obviously something cheap, a couple bucks. If it's one of those damn lamb steaks with faded barcodes or some other private selection meat that is at least $10, oh hell no.

This running back to the meat dept to get a package of heritage farm $2 "chicken" reweighed and tagged is ridiculous.

I just want them out of my lines.
