Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't one of the jobs of store management (either store mgr themselves or a co) to review all dept. heads schedules before they are posted?
for example, if a dept head schedules overtime, due to lack of staffing, how can a store manager say after the week has been completed, that it was "unapproved" overtime that they were unaware of, when they should have seen that 2 weeks ago?

That's just typical management laziness. They seen the OT but chose to ignore it. OT is okay to be scheduled but only when absolutely necessary and it has to be as minimum OT as possible. Managers rather the schedule say OFF but the person still comes in anyway and just writes it on the comm log - so that management can get away with OT.
Too much OT and operations managers get moved to other stores or into other management positions like Merchandising.
Key word: supposed to. Most management are too lazy or get swept up in other things most week. Although they don't hesitate to complain after the fact.
My store manager chewed me out for 'unapproved' overtime that he allowed to be left on the schedule, after he knew we were going to be down to a whopping THREE people for the bakery department. There was no other choice but to use the OT, the co managers knew we were using it, he should have known we were using it, i told him for 2 weeks we were going to need some help, i emailed other stores, of course that was useless.... i'm tired of being treated like we're ripping off the company by using OT. We're using OT because it's the only way for our dept. to function!! Without it, we're being bitched out for the dept. not being up to standards by the same store mgr! obviously all of us would rather have our days off!!

C'mon, man. I think we should focus on the real issue here.
Agreed who gives a Res F*ck if proper grammar is used all the time? The question was why say the OT was unapproved 2 wks after the schedule was posted or even after it was finalized? Why not TRY TO ANSWER the question rather than try and direct bad grammar.
Well if you ask GO/KMA labor is a manageable expense. If you get your associates faster, less labor is needed. OT is seen as your not working fast enough or not repaired for the unknowns. With the way staffing is going in store currently, they should be happy someone is actually working.....
For a company that have been around 140 years, we sure keep inventing the wheel.
FYI.......Store Managers have to answer for OT (Why he was most likely annoyed)
Turns out, I guess he was mad that someone else in my dept used more overtime without asking until the last minute, or even after she was already over. So I guess that makes more sense.
We use OT if we need it. When you have no help and still expect the jobs to get accomplished, be happy someone is doing the work still. I'm sure we will get in trouble for OT sooner then later, but I can not do 10 things at once, when I'm already doing 5 things.
