Uploading - Taking the items out of the cart for the customers. Bouncing - Moving from register to register bagging. Cart Exchange - You have an extra cart for every register, when a customer uploads their items you bag and place the bagged items in the new cart. Cart Exchange eliminate BOB shrink because customer is leaving with new cart.

At the location I work at as a cashier, uploading rarely happens.

As for bouncing, several customers do not like that since they want a dedicated bagger at the register.

Correct, unloading really shouldn't happen with the staffing levels/Elms formula. Baggers jumping only happens and works if you have dedicated baggers.

I didn't know they had official terms for these... I've seen baggers do these these things off and on, but I've never heard these terms before.

Uploading... I rarely see this. Usually the baggers do that if the customer is elderly and really really slow.

Bouncing... Yep, see that all the time.

Cart Exchange... I've never seen them have a dedicated cart for every register. Although, about 40% of the time, if their order is really frigging huge, like over $200 worth, I've seen them bring in a cart from the outside so the bags can be placed in the new cart. Usually the customer ends up leaving with both carts. But I've never seen (or heard?) this being used as a tactic to eliminate BOB shrink.

Cart exchange while in theory sounds good, it really takes up alot of room and also causes confusion.  What do you do with a baby, purse or other item in someones cart? Have you ever tried to take a cart away from a customer after then emotionally bonded with it throughout the store! Then you get the whole, I'm not touching that cart.....that person before me was nasty.....you get all different responses.
