"You gotta talk to the guy at the service desk."

This is the phrase this elderly lady said to her friend (or relative) after the friend asked me if this 24 pack of soda was part of a deal. That was right as I was beginning to help (as in start talking, explaining to) the friend. The friend immediately listens to her and completely dismisses me. And they go off to the wait at the line for the desk.

This was something I could have easily done a price check on my attendant station. But nope, I just work here, I don't know anything.

These same two customers have seen me a few times before. They know I'm a cashier at the Uscan.

One time, ONE TIME, before they had asked me a question about if we carry a certain bizarre product, and I didn't know. Suddenly I don't know anything to them.

Offer to assist, then don't worry about it. Your always going to have customers that "know better" then you, if they want to wait in line....that is their desire.

Speaking of customers that know better... Earlier on this same day I encountered another woman at the Uscan. The Uscan lane had its cash options disabled (still the same old problem, they just don't wanna fill 'em up), and had the sign up that it's not accepting cash. Business as usual.

I can only describe what this woman did as sort of vindictive. She flags me down saying that it's not accepting cash. Okay, fine, the usual, I just ask her for the cash and that I'll cash her out. She looks at me like I'm speaking Arabic. I repeat myself and say that yes it's not accepting cash, and that I'll have to cash them out. She says that I don't know what I'm talking about, then dismisses me and looks away saying that there's got to be somebody else here that knows what they're doing.

Baffled as to what to do or say, I just step back a little and say nothing as she sorts herself out. I offered to help, remember! Other customers needed my attention so I go help them, and when I'm done, the woman is gone and the screen still shows her order. Turns out she went to an ACSM and complained about me. The ACSM came over, took the cash from her and she left with the groceries.

Now the ACSM comes to me, in a sort of cheerful tone. Asking me if I told the woman to, and I quote, "go **** herself." Of course not! I did not say such a thing to her. I explained to the ACSM that I told her the machine wasn't accepting cash and that I'd cash her out. Luckily the ACSM sided with me and found this a bit humorous, and gave me the cash that the lady gave to them.

This woman thought she could get me fired by lying about what I said to her... behind my back... all because she couldn't understand that the machine wasn't accepting cash.

The store you work at sounds pretty bad actually. I say that because I work at a bad store, and customers will purposely lie and start issues with cashiers here too. Instead of the acsm finding it humourous, they should have been offended, that a customer would say that about you, and could have flat out told the customer, I don't believe that cashier would ever say anything like that. Shut the customer down right there.

Mr. Frontenac store is a new high volume stores, build as a medium volume replacement stores. A store that was once referred to as Ghetto Kroger, Rats Kroger or "Don't go after dark Kroger" before the new store was built. The store is built in a transitioning neighborhood where yuppie college student, urban hipsters and hospital workers are 50% of the shoppers and homeless, lower end customers are the rest (please correct me if my % is off). I would almost say most higher end shoppers does not complain, unless the situation is completely ridiculous, because they almost expect "weirdness, bazaar" to happen.

Sounds about right. Every five minutes, I see a college student.

Well, I have no idea what the ACSM said to the lady. But I'm inclined to believe they probably did say that I would never do that.
