Walkie talkies

So has your store gotten the walkie talkies yet? because we just got them and all store management/department heads/backups/any other main members of a department if they are the one in charge have to carry them...and it's kind of weird having management in your ear all the time. it's nice to have communication with the other side of the store without paging on the phone, but it's a pain in the butt to be talking to a customer or coworker in front of you while hearing random chatter in your ear!!

Our store has been using walkie talkies since it opened.

My store has them and I am supposed to wear one as I am a backup but I refuse to since it just means doing more random errands for management or answering their dumb questions. I only wear one when they demand me to otherwise I forget, honestly.

My previous store manager made them mandatory because he liked to micromanage everyone. Current one does not give a damn and they're rarely used besides for playful banter between employees. I won't use one but I do carry one of the ASM portable phones on me since I manage night stocking.

When we first moved to our current location all the management, DHes, back ups, etc. that you mentioned was sporting them. But not sure what happened, but they totally stopped using them and we are back to paging everyone again.

We have had them as long as I have worked there. We usually do not use them in the Deli unless we are doing ribs on the grill out front.

Yep. Had 'em. Used 'em. Some employees goofed around with 'em. But, now we're back to paging people again and said people either ignoring calls or asking "Could you please repeat that page?"

I swear...Half of the store must be totally deaf!

Speaking of saying "Could you please repeat the page?", I have to jump in and defend this practice at my store, which happens very OFTEN. It  happens alot because of various reasons...... our intercom system has HORRIBLE audio quality, on top of the fact that the clarity of the pages is better or worse depending on exactly what phone is being used in the store.  If you happen to be engaged in a conversation with a customer, a page may be partially "blanked out" you didn't catch a few of the most important words they said.

On top of that, as anyone who has worked in Meat, or Deli or Produce would probably agree, you can be sure there are alot of random noises and stuff going on that interfere with your hearing all pages easily and clearly.  I can be just closing up a plastic RPC (or "tote") , or the RF making a noise, or a small child screaming at his shopping mother nearby, and the noise might happen to occur right when someone is paging, and you missed a second of the audio.  "Produce" and "Frozen" sound almost the same over the loudspeakers.  Similar sounding names that have an "I" or "A" or "E" vowels in them can be very hard to understand with just a little bit of noise interference.
