We have an area that is right outside the deli in the backroom that we can hang our coats and set our non valuable items. We keep drinks there if we need them. Our store management doesnt care as long as it has a receipt with it.
From what I've heard, we aren't supposed to let the customers see us eating or drinking something on the clock. And we even have a place for beverages in the cooler. So unofficially we are allowed to have them.
And we can take a few sips here and there in between doing work, when I'm in the bakery. But the newest deli co-manager doesn't want any one sampling or drinking anything until we go on break. Although with our cooler being in the back area of the deli, if there are enough peeps on we take turns grabbing a quick sip on our drink in the back when we go to wash the trays or clean up some stuff at times.
But as a final answer, I'd just ask your supervisor what is the policy about it at your store. Some may be more lenient than others about it.
You're not suppose to eat or drink in view of customers. It looks bad and it's unprofessional. Didn't your parents ever tell you not to eat and drink in front of people?
It seems like a double standard, really. How often have you watched a store manager/co-manager/associate manager/district higher-up walk around with a drink in hand, yet hourly employees are supposedly not supposed to? Should they not be setting/leading by example?
Also too, you're always going to have some customers gripe about something... if not an employee drinking something, then something else. Some people live to complain. Look, if you're in the middle of slicing a customer's deli meat or checking a customer out, of course don't stop to take a sip... but if no customer is allowed, then I don't see what the big issue is.

Meant to say if no customer is around, not allowed.
not supposed to, but that doesn't stop my crew's mountain dew addiction lol. i usually play it safe and just drink water from the fountain. if i buy a drink, i keep it in the break room with the receipt wrapped around it. it's not worth it to me to get suspended or fired over a drink.

No, they didn't. Are you that guy/girl who has never ate in a restaurant because your parents told you that?????

If I am on break and in line, I'll drink my soda and eat my snack. Thanks.
Out here it's totally different, in fact the manager will hound you if you don't occasionally sip on some water. Then again though, I just think it's Krogrr trying to avoid paying out if anyone catches a case of Heat Stroke. You're better off asking your Supe.
