Lol it's not going to have that much of a material impact that soon. Brick and mortar will still be the primary means of grocery for most people for years to come. What I would, however suggest is if you intend on staying in the industry, explore options to make yourself as least expendable as possible by advancing your career. Stagnation is what will be a problem. Cross-train, learn new skills, enter management, earn a degree as a backup etc.
So I should not stay in the union as a back up frozen? I should try to be a co manager if I plan on staying in grocery buissness ?
When you enter management, you're not saying you want to be a manager forever, but that's the pathway to other options in the office. Different divisions have different procedures probably but here, any job at all in the office aside from technical(IT guys), they want everyone to go through management training and at least be a co-manager for a year just to be immersed and understand all aspects of the business. Your job as a frozen guy probably isn't at risk in the near term, but I'd definitely explore other options and see if anything sparks your interest. Management here doesn't require a degree at all when entering from within. It really depends on your financial goals. Personally, I don't find ~30k a year for life acceptable, but others might. Just look at your options, if you aren't super sure, it may be in your best interest to get trained to become a department head as they will be here for the foreseeable future. The pay is decent, but expectations are always rising.
So you would go for department head frozen over a co manager?
Frozen isn't a department head, it's a lead position. I could definitely see lead positions getting the boot and just having the department heads run everything once the technology has gotten to a point where ordering doesn't require much intervention. Department heads are Grocery(encompasses natural foods, dairy, frozen, also considered center store), Drug-GM, Produce, Meat, Deli.
So you say a department head is more safe then a co manager in the future of kroger? Because I did see how Walmart fired there co managers I could see Kroger doing the same

No, not more safe. But the safest union option in store if someone doesn't want to go the management route.
Department head is a lot safer then co manger..Walmart just fired a bunch of them Kroger could do the same..also department head is protected by the union

Just personal opinion here, but from what I've heard over the past year, Kroger is seriously struggling to get people to apply for the MD1 co-manager training program and that's why you're seeing more and more young co-managers... Kroger has become seemingly a lot less... selective... when it comes to accepting applications for the MD1 program, so again, just based on what I've observed/heard, I think it's less likely Kroger will go the route Walmart did and fire a bunch of co-managers. Again though, the co-manager position is only something I'd recommend if you have your sights set higher up on the Kroger corporate ladder.
It's the same expectations for kroger clerks except more for co managers unrealistic high expectations when your running a skeleton or unskilled untrained unmotivated crew, thats why no one wants to be a co manager

I thought about going into management but decided not to advance myself in the company because of this. In your first few years you actually make less than a department head in overall compensation and the work 45-50 with no overtime and are responsible for everything even if you aren't at work. I would advise to stay away from management with this company unless you don't want a social life and very grey hairs.

Only less than a department head if you're getting significant overtime as a department head. Base salary here is about 8k$ difference between the two positions.
