I didnt have one when it happened to me a few months ago. I rarely call out, so when I do its usually for a reason. Id hate to have to waste money to go to the doctor to get a note for something as simple as food poisoning.
Depends on how well you and your managers get along. Best practice is to always have a note for medical related call-ins but normally something like this falls on their good graces.

If you call in to work for having food poisoning is a doctors note required?
The good news is no. The bad news is, it really doesn't matter if you have one or not----if they want you gone. Kinda like that business of saying whatever you want in the company survey. 'Ohhhh, we're not firing you for THAT!'
Head down, mouth shut, show up consistently on time.
We have a union poster in our break room, stating that if you're only missing one day, there's no doctor's note required, so long as you call in at least two hours prior to your shift and document it.
Of course this'll differ based on location.

As far as I know, at my store, if you are out for more than a day you have to not only have a doctor's note but have to call-in about being out each day you are away.
As for personal experience, when I went through food poisoning, I didn't care what the policy was. As it hit me pretty strongly the night before I was to come in for a 3 day stretch of opening/floor setting for the bakery. And there was no way in the world I could make it. TMI, but quite literally I was sick out of both ends for a while. Sweats, muscle aches and all. Had a family member jot up a note and sent it in for me as my initial call off for the first day. Even called and said I was going to the doc's ASAP(which I did). Got my note and dragged myself into my store as soon as I could. Everybody saw that I was not faking it and had my note saying I needed a few more days off for a while. And was grateful my managers understood. But I doubt my DH did. As he gets hella annoyed when you call off for anything really.
So yea, I don't know how your store handles doctor notes or how your managers feel about you overall, OP. But I always feel your health is the main priority. Take care of yourself first. And if you can make it to a doc, do so. Can sort out a note from there.
