If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
"No one" means only us humans, right? Yes, it made a sound and the crickets, ants, flies, spiders, ticks, beetles, mice, squirrels, deer, chipmunks as well as a dozen species of birds all heard it. Case closed.
It really depends on if the other people in your department raise a stink over you being late. If you being late has no effect on me, then I'm not going to say anything. On the other hand, if I have to wait for you to arrive before I take a break or a lunch or if I need your help in getting a task done, then I'm going to say something.
The managers are aware you are late if they read the reports that are spit out of the printer in the office. I am sure they can look it up daily on a kronos report.
Here, if you are more than 2 hours late, the department head can send you home.
Several tardies lead to a SIR or CAR. Maybe you haven't accumulated enough tardies to get any warning.
They know due to the digital records. It's up to them to decide if they do anything. Depends upon the store and the managers. I worked with several who beyond abuse the seven after and

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THIS!!!! I swear any time someone says this to me. I'm like are you nuts, there are other living things in the freaking forest. Just cause a human isn't present doesn't mean all the animals and so forth are deaf!
If your late but none of the supervisors or managers say anything...are you counted late.
Like, lets say you have to be there at 1pm
You get there at 1:49
Walk in, sign in, get to work, none of the supervisors or managers ever say anything about it, normal day pretty much.
Are you counted late? You were never given a warning, sign a warning or put on probation for being late, so...are you counted late then?
And yep, you are still counted late. From what I've been told you have a 7 min grace period of time to clock in for you shift, before they consider you truly late. So if you get there at 1:49 you are definitely late and it will be reflected in your records I believe. But if it happens once in a while and not a habit, then they likely don't say much. But there is one dude I work with that is consistently late and every so often they have to call him and some other people upstairs to suspend them for 3 days do to being late. But do to being short staffed at times, they never really keep to the full 3 days and call him back in early sometimes.
