What info does Kroger get if the plus card when we use it? And how does Kroger use it ? Management wont give much info about it here. But I have always wondered?
At checkout the number is just recorded as being used for a transaction. If when receiving the card you do not provide information, they will only be able to obtain purchase history. If you provide information to register your card, coupons and other information will be mailed. Basically, the same information that could be tracked with your credit card.....
Pretty sure, like with any store chain that has membership cards, that they track your spending habits. What you buy, how often you buy it, when you shop, how much you spend. Very valuable information for their business strategies. I guess with Kroger, the pricing system is designed to force everyone to get a plus card.
And of course, to take it a little bit further, the digital coupons. Which are designed to force people to use the website and apps, and maybe Clicklist? Part of their eCommerce strategy, I'm guessing? Which is hilarious to me, because most everyone over the age of 50 has no effing clue what a digital coupon is when they see those deals like $0.99 for a bag of shredded cheese. So when they ask me why their cheese is ringing up full price, I tell them they had to have a digital coupon. "What the hell is a digital coupon?" "You gotta load them onto your card using the the app." "What the hell is an app..."
