How do you politely tell someone to stay out of your way when bagging an order? A customer kept "interferring" when i qas bagging their order, taking the bag i was working on before i was even done. They kept putting stuff into the bag i qas working on forcing me to grab a new one and the whe cycle started anew.
I dont want to move behind the checker to continue because last time i did that the customer took offense and caused a scene. So do i just put up with them getting in my way or tske my chances and politely say something
I use to physically take up as much space as possible when dealing with those people or just let them bag stuff themselves..... or just be faster than them, pulling the bags quickly and handing it to them.

You have to remember, the customer will do what the customer wants done with their items. Your job to to basically clear the items from the belt and allow the customer to leave with them. If the customer wants to bag their items, wants 1 items in each back, wants the bags double bagged, just do as they say within reason. If the customer was "helping", just give them some bags and let them "help".

You dont. You just let them "help" if they mess up their groceries then its on them. By NO means should you tell a customer they are in the way of anything. Unless its an immediate danger. Just move behind the checker if there is room. If they say anything or start too look upset just tell them that you are giving them room to help. Also make sure you dont have an irritated look your face. Customers can and will pick up on it.

'Used to'? Who you bullsh!ttin, you're a lifer. That store and this forum is your house and commode
I simply acknowledge the customer, smile and say thanks for the help or ask if they'd prefer to bag. If they do want to help, let em help. If they want to bag their own, who am I to say no, you do you friend. I will simply find something else quick to do really fast, like clearing the scattered carts in the FE, if a customer wants to do it themselves. If they want to help, sure, I let em stand next to me and have at it. It's even funnier sometimes when the customers kids try to help, although in those instances, I am always keeping an eye on the glass / heavy / fragile items if they stand next to me so I can help them avoid an incident if something happens. Nearly had a kid get brained with a few glass bowls if I hadn't spotted him reaching for them above his height on the counter. Yeesh
I don't let it get to me even though sometimes it's irritating because more bags are being used than what is necessary. I just figure they think they are really helping us out so I just usually thank them for their help. There are too many other things on the front end that are far more aggravating so I just try to not let this be one of them.

I like a few extra bags on every trip, because they're free and useful at the house for trash. I do this in every store I visit except the Kroger I work at, since we pay for the bags of course. But at other stores? Hell yea, I'm getting extra bags, just as I get extra napkins and sauce packets at restaurants. If it's free, I'm loading up to offset the cost of what I purchased.
