There are 5 to 6 stores changing store hours In my district. Instead of 24 hours they will be 6am to 12 am. I know why they are doing this. There is a lot of issues overnight now/Stacks of fake coupons/ walk outs/ theft/ crackheads/homeless. I was just wondering if they were doing this in other districts and divisions. Ive been with the company for a long time and Ive never seen them just change that many stores hours within a month.
I'm in central Il. and there are 4 stores in my town, all which used to be 24 hrs. 3 switched to 6a--12a several years ago. EWhat's weird is how the remaining one is smack in the GHETTO----yet seems to still turn a profit.
The only 24 hour Kroger near me changed hours in April-due to not making enough money-there was only one self-service cashier on duty and the Fuel Center closed at 11PM so there was virtually no customer traffic. It was convenient for night owls like me or those that worked an overnight shift such as police. Used to see cops picking up snacks all the time at 3AM
I find it funny how "theft" was the justification for the change in hours. Since, yes you had random event occur, but majority of times your customers were all the same and nothing big occurred. In reality the closure was to allow night crew to become more "Effective". In reality the decisions to close over night isn't about "Our Promise" to service customers, but rather the thinking night crews being able to make a mess in the aisle is more effective. I can tell you most customer shopping overnight are the unsung heroes of our community, doing the unseen but very noticeable jobs. Theft is a reality in all retail, but just happens more during normal business hours. I live in a urban area, with no stores now open 24/7, both neighborhood stores higher end/large stores, now have to drive 20 mins on the highway. I can understand not all stores 24/7, but why are the ones "city center" not open? 1-2 Cashiers are not major expense since most still have overnight people cleaning FE, etc.
As far as I'm aware, all of the regular stores around close at 12:00 am, and all the Marketplaces close at 11:00 pm.
Our area is kind of ghetto, so the Walmart one mile away closes at midnight now (allegedly due to theft).
We don't really have many customers after 11:00. I wouldn't be surprised if we often lost money from 11:00-12:00 simply due to a lack of sales, regardless of theft.
