My store is allowing courtesy clerks to do more than courtesy clerk duties.  Theyre encouraging them to check small orders out through self check.  Allowed to stock haba and candy. Occasionally allowed to help replenishment clerks stock merchandise.   One is disabled and doesnt under stand union rule boundaries and tries to do more than his courtesy clerk duties.  Another is allowed to do full floral duties.  Replenishment/helper clerks are allowed to do night crew shifts non cashier trained.

Should i call the union?  Theyre taking pay away from journeyman clerks.

What could unethical Krogrr love more than to have every task performed by workers who top out at $8.00 an hour?

They're taking pay away from journeyman clerks.

And cheating courtesy clerks.

Should i call the union?

Absolutely.

Enforce the contract, or forfeit it.

I for one think it sucks that courtesy clerks are grossly underpaid, they are the ones who have to be out in the elements and deal with far more **** than most of the other employees.

I would absolutely call the union.

I don't know how it works where you're at, but there are different contracts depending on you position and department. In my district the cashiers, courtesy clerks, floral, produce, and stock all sign the same contract. Which means they can all transfer and or do the other department (same contract) duties. The only departments they can't work in are Meat, Deli, Bakery, and Dairy. I would ask your HR or Union Rep about that.

May or may not be germane to the OP, but here is the relevant text (page 41) from the Dallas Division/UFCW Local 1000 contract dated through 6 June 2020:

Level 1 - Employees who would perform general courtesy clerk duties.

The Courtesy Clerks service shall not be considered in determining his or her rate of pay upon promotion to part time or full time. Level 1 classification clerks shall be allowed to maintain the area of the checkstands and customer entrances in an orderly condition through clean-up work. Stock supply items throughout the store, which shall not include merchandise for sale. Verify prices against shelf merchandise, return rejected merchandise to shelf, get change for checkers, handle and assist with outdoor plants, Christmas Trees and products, handle/assemble seasonal merchandise, and assist with Floral tent selling. Perform all duties related to shelf facing/blocking.

Perform all required sanitation duties throughout the stores including, but not limited to, cleaning of parking lot, exterior and interior of the store, restrooms, lunch rooms, floor cleaning, sweeping, mopping and dusting of the store, cleaning of shelves and cases (including the removal from and restocking of shelf/case), etc. Perform general maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs (except for ceiling lights), light painting, etc.

In the event of any violation of this section, the Union shall notify the Employer, in writing, stating the store in which the violation occurred. If the violation is substantiated, the most senior Clerk in this classification will be paid for all hours worked on the day the violation took place at the appropriate regular Clerk rate.

In the event of a second (2nd) violation of this section occurring within the same store, the Union shall have the right to terminate the Courtesy Clerk classification for a period of three (3) months in the store involved.

In the event a third (3rd) violation should occur in a store, then the Union shall have the right to terminate the Courtesy Clerk classification for a period of one (1) year in the store in which the violations have occurred.

Where the Union exercises its right to terminate the Courtesy Clerk classification, then those employees working in the store under the Courtesy Clerk classification shall be promoted to the appropriate Clerk classification, and that rate shall prevail thereafter for such employees.

Couresy clerks watering plants on floral or outside?

If its outside shouldnt parkinglot maintenece be responsable for that?

If its floral i believe floral should be responsable.

At my store cc's and uc's NEVER water the plant life in the parkinglot. They decided that regular parkinglot maintainence is responsable.

My store's been doing this for MONTHS now. Most every courtesy clerk has now been trained to be a cashier. I rarely see them bag, and most times there's nobody to bag. Some CCs help out in Clicklist. I think I've also seen a couple CCs doing some stocking.

Last month a new courtesy clerk was trained to do the service desk. He's now doing the service desk half the time.

. . . all the employees to live in the store . . . basically, you're there 24/7

Almost how it feels, anyway, when a person can never be off more than one day in a row.
