Not only is it not coming back, Kroger will be very soon getting rid of that job. It's inevitable, I can't believe it's survived this long. Absolutely NO body needs a meat cutter

Absolute truth! Been working at Kroger for 16 of the 25 years I've been doing it. Some markets have been repack for years. It all started when Walmart got rid of theirs in 98 or 99.
Meat cutters make more money than clerks, so it's no surprise Kroger would enjoy eliminating the position. More and more stuff comes in prepacked and whatnot now, not just in Meat Market but all the service departments, but there still is some cutting going on. I do think if Kroger manages to do away with cutters, it will annoy a portion of the customer base, but Kroger may feel it's a small enough portion that won't impact the bottom line that much... especially since it's not like those customers can take their business to Walmart or Target or Aldi since none of those stores have cutters, either. I don't think even Sam's Club or Costco do, so customers are gonna just have to accept that prepackaged is the only option.
Meat Cutters will be around for a while, but the number at each store has will be downsized. If anything, bigger stores might have 2, smaller stores 1 as time goes on. While, these positions do pay a higher wage, the company benefits from just the advertising of them being available.
