question about lunches on time clock
Permalink

if you clock out as a lunch and clock back in after 8 minutes, does that register as a 15-minute lunch (15 minutes deducted from your check)?

i know from personal experience that a (lunch) clock out of 7 minutes or less deducts no time. i also know 45-minute lunches are a thing

and i'm asking because i'm trying not to get overtime

It should only count it as a break unless you've already taken  your allotted breaks for your shift.  Legally it's not a lunch if it's under 30 minutes (23 minutes if you punch in early).

I know by me, all lunches or breaks are clocked as Shift in and Out. Only Minors I belive clock out under Lunch as the time clock will start a 30 minute lockout, as one of the minors who works in Grocery I know, he tried it once to clock back in early and the clock denied him from punching back in until the 30 minutes were up. Pretty much everyone by me works an 8 hour shift with 2 15 minutes breaks and goes home, only Minors get lunches because of labor laws.

Some states have labor laws that require adults be given lunches too.  If too many people skip their lunch, the store can be fined.

That's interesting. I mean I remember having a 30 min lunch when I was a substitute secretary before getting hired at Kroger. But since being at Kroger, I've heard that if you do take a 30 min lunch and you aren't a minor. You have to make up that time at the end of your shift or something.

Whether you take a lunch or not, you still have to work the number of hours you are scheduled.  If you are scheduled to work 8 hours and your shift starts at 10 AM, you can either work 10 AM to 6 PM without a lunch or take a lunch and work until 6:30.  So if you take a lunch, you're not making up any time.  You're simply working the number of hours you were scheduled.
