scheduled 6 night without consent.

Hi

My store is short handed on my shift (overnights)for the week due to someone being on vacation. I just checked eschedule and saw I was scheduled to work every night but Wednesday . No one ever discussed me working a sixth day this week with me. Is management able to do this without my consent? I know other employees were asked  but no one ever asked me.

They can pretty much schedule you whenever they want, especially if you have no or little seniority.  The person with the highest seniority in the department is suppose to have first refusal when it comes to working 6 days or overtime.  If they say no, then the person with the next highest seniority is asked and so on.   Of course if everybody in the department is scheduled 6 days or overtime, then it doesn't matter.  Also, if the job is something that only one or two people can do, then it doesn't matter if other people in the department have less seniority.  If the job needs to be done, and you're the only one that can do it, then you're going to be scheduled to do it.

Depends on your contract.  Are you scheduled 8 hour shifts or 6 hour shifts?

When I first started, I would be scheduled 6 days with 6 hour shifts.  It was not overtime.  About 5 years ago, they made it a point to give everyone

2 days off a week.  I am not sure if that was part of a new contract or not.

Maybe the schedule writer overlooked it.  That would be the first person to ask.  If you must have 2 days off a week, let them know.

Maybe they thought they asked everyone to work 6 days just for that week.

I would take the hours when they are available but that is just me.
