Ever have a customer tip you on your shift and gotten in trouble because they did it?

Local 1000 contract explicitly allows tips as long as you don't solicit for them, so if I got tipped and a manager said anything I'd in slightly nicer words tell them to shove it

The store I work at has a rule not to accept tips. Although some of the other employees don't obey it I don't accept tips because it's a personal thing too. If you have that rule or feel the same way or both be nice but firm with the customer and thank them for the offer. That usually works.

If a customer offers me a tip, ill take it even though were not supposed to. Imo, if a customer tips, then they are doing so because they want to a d are happy with the services recieved. If we do accept tips however, it is MANDATORY that we turn it in to donations. Nobody ever does though, myself included. Im guessing management gave up on the policy because no one has ever said anything more to us on the topic. I know the baggers ALWAYS accept tips as do some other employees that provide exceptional service.

When I worked for Kroger as a bagger , I'd get offered tips alot. one old man tried giving me 2 bucks. I didn't take it but apparently some other customer saw it happen and called , complained on me to the front end. I was afraid I was going to lose my job but I didn't. I am so happy I got out of there

They probably called because the customer figured a bagger should NOT at ANY time for ANY reason be making more than their set rate of pay. Less is fine. More is an "abomination against nature." But why complain? Its not any of their business whatsoevwr.

Why would anyone WASTE time and resources to see if employees are taking tips? HUGE waste of time. If an employee accepts a tip willingly given then WHO CARES?

That could be considered entrapment and that's illegal.  If the "customer" asks if you'll take a tip, that's okay.  It's up to you to accept or refuse it.   If they hand you money , especially if it's done secretly, then that's entrapment.

Entrapment? Like a criminal matter you could have prosecuted or a legal issue you could sue over? You wanna test that theory, be my guest. Dumbass biggrin

Honestly who gives a flying **** if people accept tips or not. Its not ANYONE'S Business if they do...so who cares? As long as its not solicited then its not a big deal.

This one customer gave me a $50.00 tip for Christmas last year because not only did i help him to his car, with his HUGE order I helped suggest an awesome meal idea for him that we always have for our holiday dinners. He came in the day after Christmas with my "tip" and said his family enjoyed the meal suggestion 100%.
